Yes—the Aqara Smart Lock U200 supports Apple Home Key. It is a retrofit smart lock that can let an iPhone or Apple Watch unlock a compatible door with an NFC-style tap, while also offering fingerprint, PIN, NFC, app, and physical-key entry. However, “now available” is no longer current news: Aqara announced global availability on July 9, 2024. As of August 18, 2026, the U200 remained listed on Aqara’s U.S. store at $169.99.
The U200 is a good choice for Apple users who want Home Key without replacing an entire compatible deadbolt. The main buying risk is not the software—it is whether the lock fits your door and whether your Matter-over-Thread setup supports the remote features you expect.

What Apple Home Key does on the Aqara U200
Apple Home Key stores a digital key in Apple Wallet after the lock is added to Apple Home. To unlock, hold a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch near the U200’s keypad area.

- Express Mode: tap to unlock without Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode.
- Authentication required: tap the device and then authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode.
This is a tap-to-unlock NFC-style experience, not hands-free proximity unlocking. Aqara’s newer U400 is the model associated with UWB approach unlocking, which is a separate feature.
#1 Best Overall
- True Hands-Free Unlocking with UWB Technology: Experience a new era of smart access — UWB (Ultra-Wideband) detects your incoming presence, direction, and intent to unlock automatically as you approach. It provides a faster, more convenient, and highly secure way to enter your home without touching the lock. Perfect when your hands are full, you're wearing gloves, or arriving in the rain. (Note: UWB unlocking requires a Thread-enabled Apple Home hub and is supported on Apple Watch Series 6 or later (excluding SE) running watchOS 11.5+ and iPhone 11 or later (excluding iPhone SE & iPhone 16e) running iOS 18.5+.)
- All-in-One Unlocking Options: Enjoy Apple home key tap-to-unlock (requires an Apple Thread-enabled Matter controller: HomePod 2nd Gen, HomePod mini, or Apple TV 4K 2021/2022), plus fingerprint, touchscreen passcode, voice assistant control, app remote access, NFC card support (card sold separately), and a physical key, giving you flexible, reliable ways to enter your home in any situation.
- Matter Over Thread for Multi-Ecosystem Compatibility: Built with Matter over Thread, the U400 can connect to multiple smart home platforms simultaneously, allowing you to enjoy the unique features of each ecosystem. Thread offers faster response, more stable connectivity, lower power consumption, and secure data transmission. Note: A Thread-enabled Matter controller from each ecosystem is required for its respective platform.
- Convenient Rechargeable Power System: Powered by a rechargeable and removable lithium battery that lasts up to 6 months per charge. Use the lock's USB-C port to recharge without taking the lock offline, or remove the battery and charge it separately. A low-battery voice alert will notify you when the battery drops below 20%, ensuring you never get caught off guard.
- Certified Security & Outdoor Durability: BHMA-certified for proven protection, mechanical strength, and long-term reliability. The IP65-rated exterior guards against dust and water for dependable outdoor performance. Plus, the rekeyable design allows you to change the physical key without replacing the entire lock cylinder.
Depending on the lock and Home configuration, Apple Home can also support features such as locking after the door closes or locking when leaving home. Apple’s documentation explains the current Home Key behavior in its iPhone user guide.
How the U200 works
The U200 is primarily a retrofit lock. In a compatible installation, its interior mechanism fits over the existing lock, while the exterior keypad provides fingerprint, PIN, NFC, and Home Key access. Aqara says the installation does not require drilling or screwing into the door in the usual retrofit configuration.
The U200 communicates using Matter over Thread, but it can also provide local access through Bluetooth and its keypad, fingerprint reader, NFC option, or mechanical key. Apple Home does not necessarily expose every feature available in Aqara Home; advanced settings, firmware updates, calibration, keypad-user management, and some Aqara-specific functions remain tied to Aqara’s ecosystem.

Check door compatibility before buying
Compatibility is the most important part of the decision. The U.S. model is designed for single-cylinder deadbolts with a 23⁄8-inch/60 mm or 23⁄4-inch/70 mm backset. Aqara’s international versions differ:
Rank #2
- 【Apple Home and Home Key Support】The U100 is a smart door lock that is fully integrated into Apple Home. It can be unlocked with the Apple home keys by simply tapping an iPhone or Apple Watch, even when the iPhone or Apple Watch is out of power. Moreover, you can manage and share door access for your guests in Apple Home. (NOTE: To share Apple Home Keys, you need an Apple Home Hub)
- 【Fingerprint and More Ways to Unlock】The Smart Lock U100 offers multiple ways to unlock, including a high-precision fingerprint reader for up to 50 fingerprints, remotely configurable passwords via the Aqara Home app (An Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub is required), one-time local passwords for visitors, and a mechanical key for emergency use. * The NFC card is not included and is sold separately.
- 【Automations with Aqara and Third-Party Devices】With an Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub, the Smart Door Lock U100 is compatible with third-party ecosystems like Google Home, Alexa, IFTTT as well as the Aqara Home app, allowing it to be easily integrated into a wide range of smart home setups and used in smart home automations. For example, when someone presses the Aqara Video Doorbell G4, you will be able to view who is at your door and easily unlock the U100.
- 【Auto Lock & Do Not Disturb Mode】Thanks to the built-in gyroscope inside the lock, the auto-lock feature locks the door for you after you close it. Alternatively, you can disable this feature and leave the door always open. Also, the Do Not Disturb mode can mute the door lock sounds within a certain period of time, to avoid affecting your family’s sleep when you get back home late.
- 【A Durable and Secure Biometric door Lock with Long Battery Life】 The U100 is powered by 4 AA 1.5V batteries (included) and has a long battery life of up to 8 months. Also, a USB-C port for emergency charging is available. The lock body made of zinc alloy has an IP65 rating and complies with the same safety standard as BHMA Level 3. It’s capable of withstanding temperatures ranging from -31°F to 151°F. Your sensitive data (e.g., fingerprints) is stored locally and fully AES encrypted.
- United States: compatible single-cylinder deadbolts.
- Europe: compatible Euro-profile mortise locks.
- Scandinavia: selected Scandinavian cylinders.
Your cylinder must have an emergency function: the door must be unlockable from outside even when a key is inserted on the inside. Rim locks, gate locks, self-locking locks, some older cylinders, and other non-compatible mechanisms may not work. Check Aqara’s U200 compatibility FAQ and the regional product page before ordering.
The deadbolt should also move freely with the existing key or thumb turn. A lock that scrapes against the strike plate or requires force may produce excessive noise, fail calibration, or drain its battery quickly.
Apple hardware and Thread requirements
Home Key’s local tap interaction should not be confused with remote Apple Home control. The U200 uses Matter over Thread, and Apple says Thread accessories need a Thread-enabled home hub or compatible Thread border router for functions such as remote control, automations, and notifications.
Examples of compatible Apple hardware include a HomePod mini, second-generation HomePod, and certain Apple TV 4K models. Apple’s current guidance is available at Apple Support. Some Thread-capable iPhones can pair with and manage Thread accessories locally, but that does not replace a home hub for every remote feature.
Rank #3
- Seamless Apple Home Key Experience: Tap your iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock, or use Siri for effortless hands-free access—perfectly integrated with the Apple ecosystem. *Note: Apple Home Key and all Apple features require a Thread-enabled Apple hub (HomePod 2nd Gen / HomePod mini / Apple TV 4K 2021/2022).
- High-Resolution Fingerprint Sensor for Faster, More Accurate Unlocking: Equipped with a 160×160 pixel sensor array—double the size of common 128×96 sensors—U300 captures richer fingerprint details for a truly instant experience. Achieves recognition in under 0.3 seconds with a False Acceptance Rate below 0.0001%, and supports up to 25 stored fingerprints for the whole family.
- Matter Over Thread for Multi-Ecosystem Compatibility: Built with Matter over Thread, the U300 can connect to multiple smart home platforms simultaneously, allowing you to enjoy the unique features of each ecosystem. Thread offers faster response, more stable connectivity, lower power consumption, and secure data transmission. Note: A Thread-enabled Matter controller from each ecosystem is required for its respective platform.
- Long-Lasting Power & Secure Design: Runs up to 10 months on just 4 AA alkaline batteries (alkaline required to avoid malfunction or instability). In emergencies, dual USB-C ports provide backup power. All sensitive data—including fingerprints—is stored locally with full AES encryption for enhanced security and peace of mind.
- Smart In-App Controls via Bluetooth: Connect the lock to the Aqara App over Bluetooth to customize your experience—set auto-lock timing to fit your routine and enable Scheduled Quiet Mode for silent operation during nighttime or specific hours.
An Aqara Hub M3 is relevant if you want Aqara’s broader remote-access, automation, and cross-ecosystem features. It is not accurate to say that every Apple Home Key setup universally requires an M3. The required hardware depends on whether you want local unlocking, Apple Home remote access, or Aqara-specific services.
Installation and setup
- Confirm the door, deadbolt or cylinder, backset, and emergency function meet Aqara’s requirements.
- Install the interior lock mechanism and exterior keypad according to the manual.
- Install the rechargeable battery.
- Open Aqara Home, tap the add-device control, and select Smart Lock U200.
- Follow the app’s installation and calibration prompts.
- Calibrate with the door closed but initially unlocked. The lock should cycle through its unlocked and locked positions.
- Add the lock to Apple Home using the Matter pairing process or supplied Matter setup code.
- Check that Apple Home creates the home key in Apple Wallet.
- Test the iPhone, Apple Watch, keypad, fingerprint reader, and physical key before relying on the lock.
For manual calibration, Aqara’s instructions say to begin indoors with the door closed but not locked, then hold the setup button for three seconds. A long two-tone beep indicates calibration failure. Do not repeatedly recalibrate until you have corrected door alignment, mounting-plate position, or mechanical resistance.
The full U200 manual should take priority over any general setup summary, particularly because app labels can change between software versions.
Unlocking methods
The U200 gives household members several alternatives to Apple Home Key:
Rank #4
- 【Apple Home and Home Key Support】The U100 is a smart door lock that is fully integrated into Apple Home. It can be unlocked with the Apple home keys by simply tapping an iPhone or Apple Watch, even when the iPhone or Apple Watch is out of power. Moreover, you can manage and share door access for your guests in Apple Home. (NOTE: To share Apple Home Keys, you need an Apple Home Hub)

- 【Automations with Aqara and Third-Party Devices】With an Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub, the Smart Door Lock U100 is compatible with third-party ecosystems like Alexa, IFTTT as well as the Aqara Home app, allowing it to be easily integrated into a wide range of smart home setups and used in smart home automations. For example, when someone presses the Aqara Video Doorbell G4, you will be able to view who is at your door and easily unlock the Door Lock U100. (Zigbee2MQTT and comparable third-party USB dongles are not officially supported by Aqara. Full product functionality may be limited or unavailable.)
- 【A Durable and Secure Biometric door Lock with Long Battery Life】The U100 is powered by four 1.5V AA alkaline batteries (Note: Do not use non-alkaline batteries) and offers a long battery life of up to 8 months.
- Apple Home Key on a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch
- Fingerprint recognition
- Numeric passwords
- NFC, using a separately sold NFC device or card
- Aqara Home app control over Bluetooth or Thread
- Temporary passwords through Aqara’s ecosystem
- The original mechanical key for emergency access
Remote control and temporary-password management depend on the hub, network, and ecosystem arrangement. Apple Home does not provide Aqara’s complete temporary-password system.
Specifications and practical limitations
- Matter over Thread support
- Rechargeable lithium-ion battery
- Up to six months of battery life under Aqara’s stated condition of about eight daily fingerprint or NFC unlocks
- Support for four 1.5 V AA/LR6 batteries as an alternative power source, according to Aqara’s product materials
- 12–24 V AC/DC hard-wired power support
- IPX5-rated keypad
- Claimed operating range of approximately −15°C to 66°C
- Built-in gyroscope for door-state detection and auto-lock functions
- Quiet Unlock Mode
- Mechanical-key backup
The six-month figure is Aqara’s estimate, not a guarantee. Cold weather, frequent motor operation, failed unlock attempts, poor deadbolt alignment, and network behavior can reduce actual endurance.

Calibration fails
Make sure the door is closed but not locked, the deadbolt moves freely by key or thumb turn, the interior plate is aligned, and the strike plate is not forcing the bolt sideways. Correct the mechanical problem before repeating calibration.
Apple Watch does not unlock
First confirm that the home key works on the iPhone and has synchronized to the same Apple ecosystem. Remove and re-add the home key if necessary, and verify the Watch is signed in appropriately. Apple Watch behavior can vary by device and software configuration, so do not assume every model behaves identically.
Remote access is unreliable
Local NFC unlocking and remote app control are different functions. Remote access depends on the home hub, Thread network, internet connection, ecosystem pairing, and—where applicable—Aqara’s supported hub arrangement. Local keypad, fingerprint, Bluetooth, and mechanical-key access may remain available when cloud or network features are unavailable.

U200 alternatives
| Model | Best for | Main difference | U.S. price observed August 18, 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aqara U50 | Replacing a conventional compatible deadbolt | Replacement-style deadbolt rather than U200 retrofit | $149.99 |
| Aqara U300 | Lever-style doors | Matter-compatible smart lever design | Not verified here |
| Aqara U400 | Users wanting hands-free approach unlocking | Adds UWB approach unlocking; replacement-style design | $269.99 |
The U50 makes more sense when replacing the existing deadbolt is acceptable. The U300 is the relevant choice for a lever door. The U400 costs more but is the better fit for buyers specifically seeking UWB approach unlocking rather than a tap-to-unlock Home Key experience.
Is the Aqara U200 still worth buying in 2026?
The U200 remains sensible if you have a compatible deadbolt or cylinder, want to preserve the existing exterior hardware, and specifically value Apple Home Key plus keypad and fingerprint backup. Its $169.99 U.S. price also places it below the U400.
Choose something else if your door is incompatible, you want the clean appearance of a complete replacement lock, you need a lever lock, or you expect hands-free UWB unlocking. Also budget time for calibration and for setting up suitable Matter and Thread hardware if remote Apple Home features matter to you.
