No. Apple did not announce or release a HomePod-style smart display by December 31, 2025. Reports indicate that the project remains active, but its timing has moved to a possible late-2026 launch or sometime between October 2026 and early 2027. That window is unconfirmed and could slip again.
Apple has confirmed neither the product’s name nor its design, price, operating system or specifications. “HomePod with a screen,” “HomeHub,” “HomePad” and “HomePod touch” are labels used in reports and rumor coverage, not announced Apple products.

What Apple is reportedly building
The rumored device is described as a dedicated home-control hub combining a speaker, microphones and a touchscreen. It would sit on a kitchen counter, shelf or wall rather than function primarily as a portable tablet. The intended audience appears to be households that want a shared Apple Home and Siri interface in a central room.

Reports have described a screen-mounted speaker base similar in broad concept to a Google Nest Hub, possibly with wall-mounting or other placement accessories. A display of roughly six to seven inches, including an approximately seven-inch square panel, has been mentioned. These are reported prototype or planning details, not confirmed retail specifications.

What happened to the late-2025 prediction?
Earlier reports pointed to a 2025 release, with some coverage suggesting spring or late 2025. Supply-chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo was reported to expect mass production in the second half of 2025. MacRumors later summarized reports that Apple had moved the project toward 2026 as the company worked on a more capable Siri.
As of December 31, 2025, Apple had not announced or released the rumored smart-home display. Apple’s official HomePod pages continued to list the HomePod and HomePod mini, not a display-equipped model: Apple HomePod and Apple’s U.S. HomePod store page.

The original 2025 headline is therefore outdated rather than a current release promise.
Why Siri is reportedly delaying the hardware
According to Bloomberg-sourced reporting, the hub is closely tied to Apple’s redesigned Siri and Apple Intelligence work. A screen can make home control easier to see, but the product’s main distinction from an iPad or existing HomePod would likely be an assistant that understands context and carries out more complex requests.
Reported goals for the newer Siri include understanding personal context, performing multi-step actions, controlling accessories through natural language, retrieving information across Apple apps and services, and responding reliably from anywhere in a room. Bloomberg reporting said Apple postponed the hardware while waiting for those capabilities. That explanation comes from anonymous industry sources, not an Apple statement.
Launching a dedicated home screen before those functions worked well could leave Apple with an expensive appliance that mostly duplicates the Home app. The software dependency also means the device could be delayed again even if prototypes are advanced.

The latest reported release window
Reporting in March 2026 described another postponement. Later coverage in July placed the possible release between October 2026 and early 2027, while other reports referred more broadly to late 2026 or an iOS 27-era launch. These are source-based projections, not an Apple schedule.
- Bloomberg Law’s March 2026 report linked the delay to Apple’s new AI system.
- 9to5Mac reported an iOS 27-era target.
- Bloomberg Law’s July 2026 coverage described a broader smart-home push and a possible late-2026 timeframe.
- Yahoo Tech’s July 2026 summary placed the window around late 2026 to early 2027.
Until Apple publishes an announcement, regulatory filing, support page or store listing, “October 2026” should be read as a reported possibility, not a firm date.
Reported features versus unknown specifications
| Area | What reports suggest | What remains unknown |
|---|---|---|
| Display | A roughly six-to-seven-inch, possibly square touchscreen. | Final size, resolution, brightness and refresh rate. |
| Audio | A HomePod-like speaker and microphone array. | Speaker layout, sound quality and whether it matches the current HomePod. |
| Home control | Controls for HomeKit and Matter accessories, scenes and automations. | Which Matter features and accessory types Apple will expose. |
| Assistant | A central Siri interface designed around Apple Intelligence. | Which Siri capabilities will be available at launch and in which countries. |
| Recognition | Some reports mention facial or person recognition for personalized content. | Whether a camera or recognition system ships, how enrollment works and what privacy controls apply. |
| Power | It is generally expected to be a mains-powered home appliance. | Battery operation, backup power and cable design. |
| Software | A home-focused interface with widgets and controls. | Whether it uses tvOS, iOS, a new homeOS or another platform; third-party app support is also unknown. |
Likely use cases, based on Apple’s existing ecosystem and the reports, include viewing lights and thermostat controls, cameras, locks and scenes; checking calendars, timers and weather; controlling music and podcasts; and acting as a home hub for remote access and automations. None of those possibilities is an official feature list.
How it could differ from an iPad
| Consideration | Rumored Apple home hub | iPad used with Apple Home |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | Unannounced and possibly a 2026–2027 product. | Available now. |
| Placement | Designed for an always-on counter or wall location. | Portable and battery-powered, with optional stands or mounts. |
| Audio and microphones | Expected to integrate a dedicated speaker and room microphones. | Tablet hardware, with accessories needed for a more appliance-like setup. |
| Screen | Likely a compact, home-focused display. | Multiple screen sizes and a broader interface. |
| Apps | Third-party app model not known. | Established iPadOS app support. |
| Household role | Intended as a shared home control surface. | Primarily a personal, general-purpose computer. |
An iPad can provide a visual Apple Home dashboard today, but it is not a direct replacement for a purpose-built speaker with room microphones. Conversely, the rumored hub would not offer the iPad’s portability, app breadth or larger-display options.
What current HomePods already do
Apple describes both the HomePod and HomePod mini as smart-home hubs. They provide voice control, audio, automations and remote access, but no dedicated visual dashboard.
| Model | Current U.S. Apple price observed | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| HomePod mini | $129 on Apple’s store page observed in August 2026 | Affordable Siri control, Home hub functions and compact multiroom audio. |
| HomePod | $349 on Apple’s store page observed in August 2026 | Higher-priority sound quality with Siri and Home hub functions. |

Should you wait or buy something now?
Wait if you specifically want an Apple smart display
Waiting makes sense if your priority is a first-party Apple screen designed for shared home control. Set expectations around an unconfirmed late-2026-to-early-2027 window, and do not treat a 2025 prediction—or any reported October date—as a guarantee.

The mini is the practical low-cost choice when Siri, Apple Home hub functions and compact audio are enough. It will not provide camera feeds, widgets or a visual control panel.
Buy a HomePod for sound quality
The full-size HomePod suits Apple Music and AirPlay listeners who want a stronger speaker and Home hub. It is not a substitute for a screen.
Use an iPad when you need a screen now
An iPad is the most flexible Apple option for immediate visual control, portable use and general apps. It is less appliance-like and may need a stand, mount or separate speaker for a permanent room installation.
Consider other smart-display ecosystems
Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hub devices offer established screen-first experiences, but they use different assistants, privacy policies and ecosystems. Check the exact model’s current availability, Matter support and Apple Home compatibility before buying; compatibility is not guaranteed merely because a product supports Matter.
How to judge future announcements
A credible confirmation would come from Apple’s own announcement, an official support document, a regulatory filing or an Apple store listing. Until one appears, treat claims about the name, price, camera, seven-inch display and release date as provisional. The strongest unresolved question is whether Apple can deliver the Siri experience that reportedly caused the delay.
The Bottom Line
Apple’s rumored HomePod smart display did not arrive in late 2025. The project appears to remain a credible but unannounced Apple initiative, with reporting pointing to late 2026 or early 2027. Buy a current HomePod for voice-based Apple Home control, use an iPad for a screen today, or wait if a dedicated Apple hub is the feature you actually want.
