ANNA Stay 2.0 is a cabin designed by Caspar Schols with wooden and glass wall layers that slide apart by hand. Open the timber shell to connect the interior with the outdoors, or leave glass in place to keep a sheltered, glazed space. The design’s flexibility is striking, but its seasonal comfort and weather protection are described by the designer, not established by independent testing.
How ANNA Stay 2.0 opens to the outdoors
Unlike a cabin with one fixed set of windows or doors, ANNA Stay 2.0 uses movable enclosure layers. In its closed configuration, it functions like a conventional cabin. The wooden walls slide along rails, and glass elements can be moved separately to change how open the space feels. The report says the walls can be locked in position.
The arrangement allows several degrees of exposure rather than a simple open-or-closed choice:
- Closed: Keep the wooden shell in place for a more enclosed cabin.
- Open with glass shelter: Slide the timber walls aside while retaining glazing to keep a barrier between the interior and rain or wind.
- More exposed: Reposition the layers to open the space further, admit a breeze, or increase sunlight.
These configurations describe the design’s intended use. They are not comparative test results for ventilation, weather resistance, or energy performance.

- Downstairs bed: Stows beneath the floor when not in use.
- Sunken bathtub: Accessed through a hatch in the floor.
- Mezzanine sleeping area: Reached by a removable ladder.
- Kitchenette: Included within the main cabin.
- Bathroom: A separate room with a shower, sink, and toilet.
- Heating: A wood-burning stove.
New Atlas describes the main materials as engineered wood, birch plywood, aluminum, and extensive glazing. The report gives a maximum length of 13 m (42 ft), depending on configuration.

What the designer says about comfort and weather
Schols described the insulated timber shell as a way to retain warmth in winter: “In wintertime, the insulated wooden shell of ANNA keeps the warmth inside like a thick winter coat,” he told New Atlas. He also described using the glass to keep rain outside while admitting sunlight in spring or autumn, and shifting the layers to manage exposure or catch a breeze.
Those are design intentions, not verified performance figures. New Atlas reported that Schols said a redesigned mechanism addressed concerns about drafts and leaks, but its 2023 article does not provide independent weather testing, energy measurements, or certification. The available reporting therefore cannot establish how the cabin performs in specific climates or conditions.

Award, power, and what is not established
New Atlas reported that ANNA Stay 2.0 won World Hotel Building of the Year at the 2022 World Architecture Festival. At the time of its January 2023 article, the price had not been announced. Grid power was described as standard, with off-grid options available in the Netherlands then.
That 2023 report does not establish the cabin’s current price, whether it is currently for sale, where it can be delivered, how installation is handled, or which configurations and power options are available today. Those details should be confirmed with the designer or seller before treating the reported Netherlands options as current or generally available.
