Verdict: Xfinity Home Security is a reasonable choice for existing Xfinity Internet customers who want professional installation, monitored protection, cellular alarm backup, and one provider for security and smart-home controls. It is a weaker standalone choice if you want free self-monitoring, independent equipment, broad Alexa or Google Assistant support, or fully transparent nationwide pricing.
Xfinity’s current offers are also difficult to summarize with one universal price. Its dedicated security page lists Self Protection at $10 per month, Pro Protection at $30, and Pro Protection Plus at $40, while another Xfinity page lists “Xfinity Home Security” at $55 per month with a stated $10 Internet discount. Availability, equipment, installation, taxes, promotions, and customer status can change the final bill, so request an address-specific, itemized quote before ordering.

Quick pros and cons
Pros
- Self-monitoring and professionally monitored plans are available.
- Xfinity currently advertises its security plans without a service-term contract.
- Professional installation is available with the professionally monitored solution.
- Security can be controlled through the Xfinity app, Xfinity Home app, and compatible Xfinity Voice Remote.
- Smart-home integrations, video options, and reported cellular backup add convenience and resilience.
Cons
- Equipment is sold separately.
- Self Protection requires Xfinity Internet and a compatible xFi Gateway.
- Pricing is presented inconsistently across Xfinity pages.
- Equipment financing or a particular offer may create a minimum term.
- There is no free Xfinity self-monitoring tier in the current advertised structure.
- Independent reviewers report limitations with direct Alexa and Google Assistant control.
- The system may be difficult to use as an independent platform after changing broadband providers.
What Xfinity Home Security is in 2026
Xfinity currently presents three main security options on its dedicated home-security page:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute| Plan | Advertised service price | Monitoring | Video and equipment qualifications |
|---|---|---|---|
| Self Protection | $10/month | Self-monitoring | Equipment sold separately; requires Xfinity Internet and a compatible xFi Gateway |
| Pro Protection | $30/month | 24/7 professional monitoring | Equipment sold separately; no service-term contract is advertised |
| Pro Protection Plus | $40/month | Professional monitoring | Additional video capability, including up to a week of footage in stated configurations |
Separately, Xfinity’s broader Home Solutions page lists “Xfinity Home Security” at $55 per month and says the price includes a $10 monthly Xfinity Internet discount. That may reflect a different package, customer segment, regional flow, or bundled presentation. Do not treat $55 and the $10/$30/$40 plans as interchangeable.

This distinction matters because many older reviews describe different prices, plans, contracts, or equipment. Security.org specifically notes that Xfinity has changed its pricing structure since earlier coverage. The pricing snapshot here reflects pages reviewed August 16–18, 2026.
Availability and Internet requirements
Xfinity Home Security is not universally available. Eligibility can depend on your address, residential status, local service availability, Xfinity Internet subscription, and gateway hardware. Self Protection is expressly unavailable in some areas.
Self Protection requires Xfinity Internet and a compatible xFi Gateway. That makes it less attractive for someone choosing security first and broadband second. Before buying, enter your address in Xfinity’s shopping flow and confirm whether the quoted system remains usable if you later cancel or transfer Xfinity Internet.

What does Xfinity Home Security cost?
The advertised monthly service fee is only one part of the expense. Calculate:
First-year cost = equipment + installation + 12 months of security service + required Internet or gateway cost + taxes and fees − documented discounts.
- Monthly service: Current advertised figures are $10 for Self Protection, $30 for Pro Protection, and $40 for Pro Protection Plus on Xfinity’s dedicated security page. Another Xfinity page lists a $55 bundled security presentation.
- Equipment: Current security pages say equipment is sold separately. Exact prices and ownership terms should appear in your quote.
- Installation: Professional installation may be included or separately charged depending on the offer. Do not assume a universal fee.
- Internet and gateway: Self Protection requires Xfinity Internet and a compatible xFi Gateway. A new Internet plan changes the true cost of security.
- Taxes, fees, and promotions: Confirm recurring charges, activation fees, promotional expiration dates, and post-promotion pricing.
Ask for an itemized quote showing the exact plan name, equipment ownership or lease status, installation charge, gateway requirement, financing term, early-termination amount, taxes, recurring fees, and promotional end date.

Contract and cancellation terms
Xfinity’s current marketing pages describe the advertised plans as having “no service term contract.” That does not necessarily mean every order is free of a minimum commitment. Xfinity’s services agreement permits a two-year initial term where a minimum-term arrangement applies. The agreement states a potential termination amount of $230 minus $10 for each month of maintained service, with no termination fee during a renewal period unless another minimum term was accepted.
Security.org also reports that equipment financing may involve a two-year commitment. The practical answer is therefore: the monitoring plans are currently marketed as no-contract, but equipment financing or the specific customer agreement may create a minimum term and early-termination obligation. Read the order summary and agreement for your address rather than relying on the headline advertisement.
Equipment and installation
Xfinity systems can be built from categories such as:
- Door and window entry sensors
- Motion sensors
- Keypads or touchscreen controllers
- Indoor and outdoor cameras
- Video doorbells
- Smoke, fire, carbon-monoxide, water, and other environmental sensors where offered
- Compatible smart locks, lights, thermostats, garage controls, and related devices
Professional installation is advertised for the professionally monitored solution. The service agreement warns that installation can involve drilling or other interior and exterior work, access to designated electrical outlets, and written notice of installation problems within 30 days.
Professional installation is useful when sensor placement, alarm zones, wiring, or wall penetration matters. Self-installation may be available for some devices, but it should not be assumed for every plan or sensor. Confirm the installation method, fee, warranty implications, and removal requirements before purchase.

Self Protection
With Self Protection, alerts go to you and you decide what action to take. It does not include professional monitoring, and it is not free self-monitoring: the current advertised service charge is $10 per month, with equipment extra. Xfinity says the option supports live and recorded video and requires Advanced Security activation through the Xfinity app.

Professional monitoring
When a qualifying sensor trips, a monitoring station can be notified. Entry and exit delays give you time to disarm the system. Monitoring does not mean every camera event automatically produces emergency dispatch; sensor type, alarm verification, local rules, false-alarm procedures, and the monitoring agreement affect what happens.
Independent review coverage associates professional monitoring with cellular backup. Confirm the exact backup hardware and conditions in your quote. Cellular alarm signaling is not the same as uninterrupted camera streaming, cloud recording, or smart-home control.
Arm modes and practical controls
The official Xfinity Home quick-start guide describes three modes:
- Stay: Door and window sensors are armed while motion sensors are generally inactive for people moving inside.
- Away: Door and window sensors and motion sensors are armed.
- Night: Door and window sensors are armed; motion sensors are inactive by default, although a technician can reconfigure them.
The guide gives example defaults of two-minute entry and exit delays for Stay, two-minute entry and one-minute exit delays for Away, and no entry delay with a two-minute exit delay for Night. Settings can vary or be configurable, so treat these as guide examples rather than universal defaults.
To arm in the Xfinity Home app, open the app, tap Disarmed, choose Stay, Away, or Night, and enter the four-digit Master Keypad Code or use supported biometrics. To disarm, tap Armed and authenticate.
On compatible Xfinity TV service, press the Xfinity button, open Xfinity Home in Apps, select Security status, choose a mode, and enter the four-digit code.

Cameras and video recording
Xfinity’s current marketing says Self Protection and Pro Protection Plus can provide up to a week of footage review. It also describes up to six cameras with 24/7 video recording for Self Protection, subject to stated restrictions. Equipment is sold separately.

Before comparing plans, separate five different features:
- Live viewing
- Motion or doorbell event clips
- Continuous recording
- Retention period
- Cloud-storage and camera-count limits
“Up to a week” should not be generalized to every plan, camera, or configuration. Ask whether the quoted cameras support continuous recording, how long clips remain available, whether storage is cloud-based, and what happens when the service or Internet connection is interrupted.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Apps, TV control, and smart-home compatibility
Xfinity identifies the Xfinity app, Xfinity Home app, and compatible Xfinity Voice Remote as control methods. The quick-start guide says the Xfinity Home app can show system status, arm or disarm the system, display recent activity, show live or recorded video, customize rules, and support biometric sign-in where available.
Feature placement may differ between the Xfinity app and Xfinity Home app, so do not assume every device is managed in one application.
Xfinity promotes compatibility with smart locks, lights, thermostats, garage-door controls, and other devices. Compatibility requires a supported device, compatible Xfinity Gateway, and eligible subscription. Check Xfinity’s current compatibility tool rather than assuming support for every Matter, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Alexa, or Google device.
Best Value
- One Unified Security System, Powered by 1st-Gen aosuBase: 32GB of local storage comes ready to use, holding about 120 days of loop recording. No subscription required. Connect up to 4 cameras to one base with a stable wireless connection and centralized local storage. Recordings saved to aosuBase are event-based, triggered by detected activity.
- Multi-Cam Live View for All-at-Once Monitoring: Watch up to four live camera feeds simultaneously in the aosu app and monitor multiple areas on one screen without opening each camera individually. Live View is available through the aosu app only; the base does not support HDMI or TV output.
- 360° Coverage with Pan, Tilt, and Smart Auto Tracking: Pan and tilt to see all around your property. When activity is detected, the camera automatically follows people and other movement to keep the action in view while recording, giving you a more complete view of what happens around your home.
- 2K (3MP) Clarity with Full-Color Night Vision: Capture clear details in 2K and zoom in up to 6x for a closer look. Built-in spotlights enable full-color night vision, helping you see important color details like clothing and vehicles after dark. For more discreet monitoring, switch to infrared mode for black-and-white night vision without visible lighting.
- Quick Setup with a Pre-Paired System: Connect aosuBase to your router's LAN port with the included Ethernet cable. Cameras connect wirelessly to aosuBase instead of your home Wi-Fi. The system comes pre-paired, so simply power on the cameras and complete setup in the app without pairing each camera one by one. The cameras are designed to work with the included aosuBase, and add-on cameras connect through the base as well.
Control through an Xfinity Voice Remote is different from native hands-free Alexa or Google Assistant control. Security.org reports that it could not use Alexa or Google Assistant to control the Xfinity system hands-free. Smart-home convenience is useful, but it should be evaluated separately from burglary detection and emergency response.
Internet, power outages, and cellular backup
There are four separate failure questions:
- What happens during an Xfinity broadband outage?
- What happens if the Wi-Fi gateway fails?
- What happens during a local power outage?
- Which functions, if any, use cellular backup or battery power?
Independent coverage says professional monitoring includes cellular backup, but Xfinity’s public pages do not fully specify every outage behavior. Do not assume cameras, cloud recording, notifications, or all smart-home functions continue normally without broadband or power. Ask about battery duration, alarm signaling, camera operation, and gateway-offline notifications, then test those scenarios after installation.
What independent reviewers report
Security.org gives Xfinity a 7.3/10, while SafeHome gives it 7.6/10 based on its stated combination of research, testing, and customer surveys. These are publisher-specific scores, not an industry standard or proof of independently measured response times, camera quality, cellular failover, or false-alarm performance.

Xfinity versus alternatives
| Choose based on | Xfinity | Alternative direction |
|---|---|---|
| Existing broadband relationship | Best fit when you already use Xfinity Internet | Ring or SimpliSafe can separate security from your Internet provider |
| Installation | Professional installation is available for monitored service | Ring and SimpliSafe are commonly considered for DIY setups; verify current offers |
| Dedicated security provider | Security is integrated with a broadband ecosystem | ADT or Vivint may suit buyers prioritizing a dedicated security platform |
| Smart-home automation | Xfinity app, Home app, Voice Remote, and supported integrations | Compare device compatibility and voice-assistant support directly |
| Portability | Confirm equipment ownership and future usability in writing | Standalone ecosystems may be more suitable for frequent broadband or home changes |
Do not assume an alternative is cheaper without an apples-to-apples quote including equipment, installation, monitoring, storage, Internet, taxes, and post-promotion pricing.
Who should buy Xfinity?
- Existing Xfinity customer: A strong candidate if one bill, one support relationship, and integrated controls matter.
- Homeowner wanting professional monitoring: Consider Pro Protection if local availability, installation, backup, and terms meet your needs.
- Renter: Check installation, drilling, removal, equipment ownership, and move policies before signing.
- Smart-home user: Confirm every lock, light, thermostat, camera, and voice-control feature individually.
- Broadband switcher: Be cautious because Self Protection requires Xfinity Internet and equipment portability is not guaranteed.
- Budget DIY buyer: Compare Ring or SimpliSafe if you want simpler standalone equipment or no Xfinity broadband relationship.
- No-monthly-fee shopper: Xfinity is a poor fit; the current Self Protection offer still charges $10 monthly, before equipment.
Order and cancellation checklist
Before accepting an offer, obtain written answers to these questions:
- What is the exact plan name and monthly service price at my address?
- Is the quote the $10/$30/$40 security-page structure or the $55 Home Solutions presentation?
- Which Internet plan and gateway are required?
- What equipment am I buying, renting, financing, or returning?
- Who owns the equipment after payoff or cancellation?
- What are the installation, activation, removal, and reinstallation charges?
- Does any financing or promotion create a minimum term?
- What is the early-termination formula for this exact order?
- What video retention, camera limit, and continuous-recording features are included?
- What continues during Internet, gateway, and power outages?
- What happens if I move outside Xfinity’s service area or cancel Xfinity Internet?
- How are false alarms verified, canceled, and handled under local rules?
Final verdict
Xfinity Home Security is good for Xfinity households, especially those that value professional installation, professional monitoring, cellular alarm backup, and integrated app or TV control. It is only average as a standalone security choice because the service depends heavily on Xfinity’s broadband and account ecosystem, equipment costs are not clearly presented on the main plan table, and current pricing varies across Xfinity pages.
