AMP SECURE Low Profile Wall Pack: Mounting Heights, Coverage and 30-Foot Installation

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Yes, the AMP SECURE Low Profile Wall Pack is documented for installation as high as 30 feet. AMP’s brochure shows 10-, 20- and 30-foot mounting heights for model AWP-4401-85S-UNV-S-A. That is a documented design range, not a universal recommendation: AMP says the correct height depends on the product, selected lumen output and the conditions at the site.

At 30 feet, the brochure reports a 0.50-foot-candle coverage footprint from 32 × 34 feet at the 25W setting to 56 × 70 feet at 85W. Those figures assume the luminaire faces downward and uses 3000K, so they should be treated as planning data rather than a guarantee for every wall, mounting angle or application.

What the 30-foot rating actually covers

The product is the AMP SECURE Low Profile Wall Pack, SKU AWP-4401-85S-UNV-S-A, designed for 120–277V installations. AMP positions it for commercial exteriors such as schools, shopping malls and delivery areas. Its shallow housing is intended for wall mounting rather than a pole-top application.

The brochure establishes three reference heights—10, 20 and 30 feet—and provides a separate coverage footprint for each selectable output. It does not say that every installation should be placed at 30 feet. A higher mounting point can improve clearance and reduce the number of fixtures, but the useful result depends on the area that must be lit, the required illuminance, wall geometry, obstructions and the output selected on the fixture.

AMP’s own Outdoor Security Lighting FAQ states: “Mounting outdoor luminaires varies by product and lumen levels.” The same FAQ directs installers to the individual specification sheet and advises aiming fixtures away from neighbors’ windows and from areas where they could create unnecessary light pollution. Read the AMP Outdoor Security Lighting information alongside the product documentation before finalizing a layout.

Coverage at each height and output

The table below reproduces the wall-pack photometric table in AMP’s brochure. Coverage is measured at the 0.50 foot-candle level. “X” is forward throw away from the wall, and “Y” is wall spread across the mounting surface or area in front of it. AMP states that the luminaire is facing downward and that the table uses 3000K.

Selected output At 10 feet
X × Y
At 20 feet
X × Y
At 30 feet
X × Y
25W, 4,061 lm 30 × 32 ft 35 × 40 ft 32 × 34 ft
45W, 6,229 lm 36 × 44 ft 40 × 50 ft 46 × 52 ft
65W, 8,725 lm 40 × 48 ft 48 × 56 ft 52 × 60 ft
85W, 11,182 lm 44 × 52 ft 54 × 66 ft 56 × 70 ft

These are manufacturer performance values from the AMP SECURE Outdoor LED Lighting Solutions brochure, not independent field measurements. The 0.50-foot-candle boundary is a planning threshold; it is not the visible edge of the beam, and it does not by itself establish that a site meets a particular building, security, parking or municipal lighting requirement.

What the 30-foot row tells you

  • The 25W configuration covers 32 × 34 feet at the stated threshold. It may suit a compact loading-door or walkway zone when the design target is modest and the footprint is close to square.
  • The 45W setting extends the reported footprint to 46 × 52 feet, offering more reach and spread without using the highest output.
  • The 65W setting reaches 52 × 60 feet and is the middle option for a larger wall or delivery area.
  • The 85W setting reaches 56 × 70 feet, the largest footprint in the brochure’s 30-foot row.

Do not substitute the product page’s rounded feature figures for the brochure values in this table. AMP’s detailed product specification lists selectable outputs as 4,100, 6,500, 9,100 and 12,000 lumens, while its feature description rounds the upper settings to 9,000 and 11,500 lumens. The brochure uses 4,061, 6,229, 8,725 and 11,182 lumens for its photometric rows. Keep those presentations identified by source instead of treating them as interchangeable test results.

How to choose a height and output

1. Define the area that must receive useful light

Draw the wall line, the forward edge of the pedestrian or vehicle area, doors, ramps, stairs and any property boundary. The brochure’s X dimension describes forward throw, while Y describes spread. A fixture can have enough total lumens yet still leave a dark strip if the forward distance is longer than the selected row’s X value.

2. Compare the footprint with the mounting height

Use the 10-, 20- and 30-foot rows as design points rather than assuming that a higher fixture always covers more ground. For example, the brochure’s 25W row reports 30 × 32 feet at 10 feet, 35 × 40 feet at 20 feet, and 32 × 34 feet at 30 feet. That non-linear pattern is a reminder to use the manufacturer’s photometric data for the actual height instead of scaling one number by eye.

3. Select wattage after checking the required light level

The four wattage selections are 25W, 45W, 65W and 85W. Higher output generally provides a larger reported footprint in the brochure, but it can also increase glare, spill light and energy use. Use the lowest setting that satisfies the project’s documented lighting criteria after accounting for mounting height, surface reflectance and obstructions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Confirm color temperature and controls

The fixture offers 3000K, 4000K and 5000K correlated color-temperature choices. The brochure’s coverage numbers are based on 3000K, so do not assume that changing CCT leaves every photometric value identical. The product also includes an integrated photocontrol and 0–10V dimming. Confirm the control wiring, dimming equipment and operating schedule with the installation instructions and the project’s controls design.

5. Check the site before committing to 30 feet

  • Verify that the wall, parapet or structural support can carry the fixture and bracket at the proposed elevation.
  • Check that the junction box is in the correct location and remains accessible for wiring and service.
  • Look for roof overhangs, signs, canopies, trees and neighboring buildings that can block or reflect the light.
  • Confirm that the chosen footprint does not cross a property line or shine into occupied windows.
  • Have a qualified designer verify required illuminance, uniformity, emergency-lighting rules and local restrictions before ordering a quantity.

The voltage range allows one product family to be specified across many North American commercial circuits, but it does not remove the need to identify the branch-circuit voltage, disconnecting means and wiring method at the jobsite. IP66 describes the listed enclosure protection; it does not authorize immersion or compensate for an improperly sealed junction box.

Manufacturer’s installation sequence

AMP’s security-lighting installation overview describes the following sequence. Use it as a planning summary, not as a replacement for the model-specific installation sheet, licensed electrical work or local code requirements.

  1. Switch off and verify power. De-energize the branch circuit at the correct disconnect and test the conductors with an approved meter before opening the junction box.
  2. Attach the universal bracket. AMP describes a universal bracket for a common junction box. Fasten it using hardware suitable for the box, wall material and fixture load; do not rely on drywall or siding alone.
  3. Tether the fixture for wiring. The overview calls for tethering the wall pack while conductors are connected. Keep the housing supported so the wiring is not carrying the fixture’s weight.
  4. Connect the conductors. Make line, neutral and equipment-ground connections according to the product instructions and the applicable electrical code. If using 0–10V control, keep the control conductors identified and separated as required by the wiring method.
  5. Mount and secure the housing. Seat the fixture on the bracket, tighten all fasteners and verify that gaskets and entry points are properly aligned for the weather-resistant enclosure.
  6. Set the operating configuration. Select the wattage and CCT before final closure where the product’s instructions require it. Configure photocontrol and dimming equipment only after confirming compatibility.
  7. Restore power and test. Check activation, dimming response, aiming, unwanted spill light and the actual illuminated area during a suitable nighttime test. Correct the aim before adding more fixtures or increasing output.

Aiming, glare and neighboring properties

A 30-foot mounting position can place the light source above many sight lines, but the fixture still needs deliberate aiming. AMP specifically advises aiming lights away from neighbors’ windows and avoiding light pollution. Keep the downward-facing assumption used by the brochure’s photometric table when setting the housing; tilting it outward changes the distribution that produced the published X and Y values.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Inspect the installation from approaching sidewalks, drive aisles and nearby windows. If the source is visible at eye level, try correcting the angle or reducing the selected output before adding shielding or increasing height. Document the final setting so a future service call does not reset the fixture to a brighter configuration without checking the surrounding properties.

Electrical and environmental checks

  • Voltage: Confirm that the circuit falls within 120–277V and that the overcurrent protection and disconnect are appropriate for the installation.
  • Junction box: The universal bracket is intended for junction-box mounting, so verify box condition, fastener engagement and weather sealing before attaching the luminaire.
  • Controls: An integrated photocontrol can change the switching behavior compared with a simple wall switch. Coordinate it with building-automation schedules and 0–10V dimming equipment.
  • Weather exposure: The listed IP66 housing is suitable for outdoor exposure within its rating. Inspect lens, seals and cable entries during maintenance, especially after construction work or severe weather.
  • Service access: At 30 feet, plan safe access for inspection and replacement. A lift, scaffold or other compliant method may be required, and the access plan can affect the total installation cost more than the fixture itself.

Price, stock and documentation

When the manufacturer listing was checked, the product page showed an in-stock status and a price of $121.99. Both price and availability are volatile; verify the live AMP product listing before preparing a purchase order. The listing and brochure should be retained with the project file so the selected wattage, CCT, photometric assumptions and warranty terms remain traceable.

Common problems and practical corrections

The area is still dark at the far edge

First confirm that the fixture is actually at the height and output used for the design calculation. Compare the required forward distance with the brochure’s X value and check for a canopy, sign or wall return blocking the beam. If the design permits, evaluate a higher output, a lower mounting point or an additional fixture rather than assuming that a small change in aim will create the same published footprint.

There is a bright patch near the wall and weak light farther out

Check the mounting angle against the brochure’s downward-facing condition. An outward tilt can move light away from the intended wall spread. Verify the selected wattage and CCT, then reassess the layout using the correct photometric row.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The light switches at the wrong time

Inspect the integrated photocontrol for obstruction, incorrect orientation or interference from nearby luminaires. Check the control schedule and 0–10V wiring before changing the fixture’s output. Follow the manufacturer’s wiring instructions and de-energize the circuit before opening the housing or junction box.

Neighbors report glare

Observe the fixture from the affected window or property line, then correct the downward aim or reduce output if the required coverage remains adequate. AMP’s guidance is to keep light out of neighboring windows and limit unnecessary spill.

The mounting surface does not line up with the junction box

Do not force the bracket or leave gaps that compromise the enclosure. Rework the box or mounting surface so the universal bracket is supported and sealed, or have the electrical contractor provide an approved adapter consistent with the installation instructions and code.

When a 30-foot installation makes sense

Use the 30-foot data when the wall, structure and access plan support that elevation and when the selected output produces the required footprint at the 0.50-foot-candle reference level. It is most defensible when the project has a defined photometric target, clear property boundaries and a reason to keep fixtures out of reach or away from vehicle conflicts.

Choose a different height when the wall is too short or weak for the bracket, the access equipment is impractical, the required uniformity is not met, or the 30-foot beam would cross a boundary or create glare. The AMP SECURE wall pack gives you selectable outputs and mounting-height reference data; the final height remains a site-specific lighting-design decision.
