It introduced three separate expansions: Fire Watch for wildfire information, a U.S.-only marketplace for third-party camera services, and a new range of Sidewalk-connected sensors for security, safety, and home control.
The practical result is a broader Ring ecosystem—not a replacement for certified smoke alarms or a guarantee that every existing doorbell receives every new feature.

The three Ring announcements in brief
- Fire Watch: A wildfire and smoke-information feature in the Ring app’s Neighbors section, developed with Watch Duty.
- Ring Appstore: A marketplace where subscribers can connect third-party services to compatible Ring cameras and video.
- Ring Sensors: Sidewalk-connected devices for intrusion detection, environmental warnings, and home automation.
Ring also announced related AI features, including Unusual Event Alerts and Active Warnings for eligible cameras and subscription plans. Those features should not be confused with Fire Watch, which combines several different information sources.

Fire Watch combines three elements:
- Watch Duty alerts: Real-time wildfire information from Watch Duty.
- Camera analysis: AI-powered analysis of video from participating Ring cameras for visual signs of smoke or fire.
- Community contributions: Ring users can voluntarily share camera snapshots and observations that may help neighbors and responders.
The feature appears in the Neighbors section of the Ring app. Availability, camera eligibility, and subscription requirements can vary, so Ring owners should not assume that every doorbell receives every alert or analysis feature.

Fire Watch is not an indoor smoke detector
A Ring camera’s visual analysis is fundamentally different from a listed smoke alarm that samples air and sounds a local alarm. Darkness, fog, glare, steam, obstructions, camera angle, weather, and connectivity can all affect what a camera sees.
Fire Watch is therefore best understood as an additional source of wildfire and smoke information—not as a certified life-safety system. Ring does not establish a guaranteed warning time or detection accuracy in the announcement. Homes still need properly installed, maintained smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms that meet local requirements.
Ring’s separate Smoke & CO Listener listens for the sound of an existing compatible alarm and relays that event through Ring. It does not automatically turn into a standalone smoke or carbon-monoxide detector. Users should also verify alarm compatibility, placement, battery condition, and service life.

What the Ring Appstore is—and is not
The Ring Appstore is closer to an integration marketplace than a conventional smartphone app store. It does not install ordinary apps on a Ring doorbell. Instead, third-party services connect to Ring cameras or related video data to provide specialized functions.
Ring highlights possible uses such as:
- Pool-maintenance reminders.
- Business foot-traffic and line monitoring.
- Workplace-safety alerts.
- After-hours security.
- Package and driveway monitoring.
Ring announced the marketplace on January 6, 2026, and said rollout to Ring subscribers began March 31. As of the August 18, 2026 price and availability check, Ring’s U.S. Appstore page displayed live listings. Availability remains country-specific and may depend on the account, device, and rollout status.
Does the Appstore cost extra?
Access to the Appstore is part of Ring’s subscription structure, but individual services can charge separately and may require linked third-party accounts. Examples listed on Ring’s marketplace on August 18, 2026 included StoreTraffic by AllScout at $2.99 per month and Driveway Alert at $4.99 per month. Listings, pricing, and free trials can change.

A realistic cost calculation may therefore include a Ring plan plus a separate app subscription. Users should review what video, snapshots, metadata, and alerts each service can access, how long it retains them, and how to disconnect the account.
Ring’s new sensors, organized by purpose
Ring presents the lineup in three layers—Security, Safety, and Control. It also includes specialized sensors for equipment and vehicles.
| Category | Products | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Security | Window & Door Sensor; Motion Detector; Glass Break Sensor; Outside Door Sensor; Panic Button; Car Alarm Sensor | Intrusion, emergency, and vehicle alerts |
| Safety | Smoke & CO Listener; Flood & Freeze Sensor; Air Quality Monitor; Temperature & Humidity Sensor | Early warning for fire-alarm sounds, water, temperature, and air-quality problems |
| Control | Smart Plug; Smart Light Switch; Smart Light Remote; Smart Fan Control | Lighting, appliance, and ventilation automation |
| Specialized | Sump Pump Monitor | Notification when sump-pump operation needs attention |
The Air Quality Monitor reports particulate matter PM2.5, carbon monoxide, humidity, temperature, and another air-quality component identified in Ring’s product documentation. It does not measure carbon dioxide or radon, so “air quality” should not be read as a complete indoor environmental assessment.

How Sidewalk changes sensor setup
Ring says the new sensors use Amazon Sidewalk and do not require a Ring Alarm base station. Ring markets Sidewalk as allowing sensors to operate beyond ordinary home Wi-Fi range, which could help with detached garages, sheds, gates, and other locations where Wi-Fi is weak.
The qualification is important: Sidewalk coverage must be available in the neighborhood. Ring says setup involves scanning a QR code in the Ring app to connect a sensor to the Ring app and Sidewalk network. “No Wi-Fi range limits” is Ring’s marketing description, not a guarantee of coverage in every location.
Ring also says the sensors can be used with an existing Ring Alarm or Alarm Pro system. That does not mean every sensor has identical alarm-trigger, automation, or professional-monitoring behavior. Confirm the exact device’s compatibility before buying, especially if you already own older Ring Alarm accessories.

What you need to buy
| Goal | Likely requirements |
|---|---|
| Wildfire information | Ring app access, Watch Duty’s alert coverage, and—where supported—a compatible Ring camera for camera-based analysis |
| Indoor smoke or CO notification | A maintained, compatible existing smoke/CO alarm plus the Smoke & CO Listener |
| Door, motion, flood, or temperature alerts | The relevant Ring Sensor, Ring app, and available Sidewalk coverage |
| Third-party camera service | An eligible Ring subscription, the selected Appstore service, and potentially a separate third-party subscription |
| Professional monitoring | An eligible Ring plan, compatible device, qualifying address, and service availability in the user’s geography |
Ring specifically identifies the Window & Door Sensor, Smoke & CO Listener, Motion Detector, Glass Break Sensor, Outside Door Sensor, and Panic Button as devices that can be professionally monitored. Ring’s plans page says smoke and CO monitoring can request fire-department dispatch for qualifying emergencies, but plan, device, address, and geographic conditions apply. Ring also says this service is unavailable for business or commercially zoned addresses.

- Ring Multi: $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year for all devices at one location.
- Ring Pro: $19.99 per month or $199.99 per year.

Who benefits most?
- Wildfire-prone households: Fire Watch adds another information channel, particularly for homes with suitable camera views.
- Existing Ring owners: Sensors can extend an established Ring account without necessarily adding a base station.
- Homes with detached spaces: Sidewalk connectivity may be useful where Wi-Fi is unreliable, if coverage exists.
- Small businesses: Appstore services may turn existing cameras into specialized monitoring workflows.
- Homeowners tracking hazards: Flood, freeze, temperature, humidity, air quality, and sump-pump sensors broaden Ring beyond video security.
Who should be cautious?
- Anyone seeking a professionally designed, code-compliant fire-alarm system should not treat Fire Watch or a camera as a substitute.
- Privacy-sensitive users should inspect every Appstore service’s permissions, retention, sharing, and account-disconnection policies.
- People without dependable Sidewalk coverage should confirm that a sensor will communicate from its intended location.
- Customers who dislike recurring fees should calculate Ring and third-party subscriptions before expanding the system.
- Owners of older Ring Alarm equipment should verify exact interoperability rather than assuming the entire sensor family behaves identically.
Bottom line
Ring’s CES 2026 update is meaningful for people who want a wider security and home-monitoring ecosystem. Fire Watch adds wildfire information, the Appstore adds specialized camera services, and the new sensors cover everything from doors and glass breakage to flooding, air quality, lighting, and fan control.
For someone who only wants a basic doorbell, the announcement changes little. For existing Ring owners, the main questions are whether Fire Watch is available in their area, whether Sidewalk coverage reaches the intended sensor locations, and whether the combined subscription and privacy trade-offs are acceptable. None of these additions removes the need for certified smoke and CO alarms.
