How to measure a room with an app

Manual method: the dependable fallback

1. Measure the longest wall.
2. Measure the perpendicular wall.
3. Keep units consistent: feet and inches, decimal feet, metres, or centimetres.

5. Calculate the main rectangle using length × width.
6. Measure closets, alcoves, bay windows, and other sections separately.
7. Add or subtract those sections as appropriate.
8. Repeat at least one measurement to catch errors.

AR or LiDAR method

1. Open the app and choose Room Scan, Floor Plan, Area, or a similar tool.
2. Select metric or imperial units.
3. Grant camera and motion permissions.
4. Move furniture and boxes away from corners where possible.
