Agentic AI is best understood as a managed system, not a chatbot. A model supplies reasoning or generation; agents connect that model to tools, data, workflows and permissions so it can carry out multi-step work. The Building Design + Construction webinar held May 7, 2026 presents that arrangement as a possible new operating layer for architecture, engineering, operations and project-management firms.
The session is available on demand, but it is a planning briefing rather than a controlled product evaluation or an industry-wide adoption study. It does not establish how common agentic systems are, how much time they save, or whether a particular product is suitable for building design. Its practical value is the set of questions it puts in front of firm leaders: what an agent may read or change, how every action is reviewed and recorded, how systems interoperate, and which responsibilities remain with people.

What the webinar actually covers
The Building Design + Construction session, dated May 7, 2026 and listed for on-demand viewing, introduces the building blocks of agentic AI and asks how work could change across design, engineering, operations and delivery. Its stated learning outcomes are to explain core components, assess possible role changes, identify governance requirements, and outline practical preparation for data, workflows and teams.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe listing describes the session in unusually practical terms: “This is not a hype session. It is a planning session.” That is an important qualification. The page names concepts and planning issues, but it supplies no benchmark, adoption rate, productivity percentage or comparative test of AI products. Any forecast about the future of AEC work should therefore be treated as a scenario to plan for, not as a measured result.

Agentic AI: the parts and how they fit together
Calling a system “agentic” does not mean that a model has independent authority. It means that software is arranged so a model can interpret a goal, select actions, use connected tools, inspect results and continue through a workflow. The surrounding controls determine what the system can actually do.
Models
A model is the language, vision or multimodal engine that predicts, classifies, summarizes or generates. It may draft a scope note, extract requirements from a specification or propose the next step in a review. A model by itself normally has no direct access to a project file, scheduling system or email account; access comes from the software wrapped around it.
Agents
An agent is the decision-and-action layer around a model. It receives an objective, keeps track of the current task, chooses from permitted tools and returns results. For example, a firm might configure an agent to gather open requests for information, check whether required fields are present, route exceptions to a project manager and record each action. That example illustrates a workflow pattern; it is not a capability claim about a product named in the webinar.
Tools and connected systems
Tools are the functions an agent can call: searching a document repository, reading a schedule, creating a draft ticket, running a calculation or requesting an approval. “Agent-readable” systems expose information in a form software can retrieve. “Agent-writable” systems accept changes. The distinction matters because reading a drawing register is materially different from changing a contract record or issuing a field instruction.
Workflows
A workflow defines sequence, conditions and ownership. It can require an agent to collect evidence, ask for human approval, make a change and notify a named role. Without a workflow, an agent may produce a plausible answer without the context, traceability or sign-off that professional practice requires.

- One-Handed Loading - Keep one hand free with a 1/4 in. hex chuck that accepts 1 in. bit tips
Subagents
A larger task can be divided among specialist subagents. One may extract requirements, another may check a calculation or compare versions, and a coordinating agent may assemble the result. This can make complex work easier to organize, but it also multiplies permission, hand-off and quality-control points. Each subagent needs a defined purpose and a record of what it received and returned.
Tokens and context
Tokens are the units used to represent text and other inputs for model processing. They affect how much project information can fit into a request, how context is carried between steps and, in many services, how usage is counted. Teams should decide which documents are relevant to a task and how long context is retained rather than sending an entire project archive by default.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Model Context Protocol (MCP)
The session lists the Model Context Protocol, or MCP, among the concepts it explains. In practical terms, a protocol of this kind provides a consistent way for an AI application to discover and use approved data sources and tools. Interoperability can reduce one-off integrations, but a common connection does not make an underlying data source accurate, current or appropriately permissioned. A firm still has to authenticate the connection, define allowed operations and log use.
How roles may change—without assuming that every job disappears
The webinar frames a possible shift from manual execution toward orchestration, supervision and system design. That is a forecast, not a finding that every firm will experience the same change. The responsibilities below show where the shift could appear and where professional accountability remains.
| Role | Possible agent-supported work | Human responsibility that remains |
|---|---|---|
| Architects | Organizing precedent and requirements, preparing option summaries, checking that a design task uses the current brief and routing coordination issues. | Design intent, code interpretation, client decisions, life-safety judgment and approval of issued information. |
| Engineers | Collecting inputs, comparing revisions, preparing calculation drafts, checking data completeness and flagging values outside defined limits. | Engineering methods, assumptions, verification, professional sign-off and decisions where safety or compliance is affected. |
| Operations teams | Turning timesheets, backlog and staffing data into draft reports, identifying missing information and suggesting routine follow-ups. | Data ownership, employment decisions, financial controls and resolution of exceptions. |
| Project managers | Maintaining action registers, summarizing correspondence, monitoring dependencies and preparing status drafts from approved sources. | Scope, commercial commitments, stakeholder communication, escalation and acceptance of project risk. |
In each case, the valuable skill moves upward from clicking through repetitive screens to defining the objective, selecting reliable sources, setting boundaries and reviewing evidence. That does not remove the need for technical expertise; it makes expertise part of the control system.

Governance questions an AEC firm must answer first
1. What may the agent read?
Inventory the systems and data involved in a proposed workflow: project-management records, specifications, drawings, email, resource plans, financial data and personnel information. Classify sources by sensitivity and by who is entitled to see them. An agent should receive the minimum data needed for the task, with credentials tied to a person or service identity rather than a shared administrator account.
2. What may it write or trigger?
Separate low-risk drafts from consequential actions. Creating a proposed meeting summary is not equivalent to changing a baseline schedule, releasing a document, sending a contractual notice or altering a staffing record. Use explicit allow-lists for write operations and require a human approval step for actions that affect safety, cost, schedule, compliance or external commitments.
3. Can the firm reconstruct what happened?
An audit trail should preserve the request, relevant data sources, model or agent version, tools called, outputs, approvals, changes made and errors encountered. Records need timestamps and an identifiable actor or service account. Logging only the final answer is insufficient when a reviewer must determine why an agent reached a conclusion or changed a record.
4. Do systems interoperate reliably?
Test field mappings, document versions, identity handling, rate limits and failure responses before connecting a production workflow. A successful demonstration with one sample file does not prove that the integration handles renamed folders, superseded drawings, inaccessible records or partial outages. Define what the agent should do when a source is unavailable: stop, request help or continue with a clearly marked limitation.
5. Where is human oversight proportional to consequence?
Human review should be strongest where an error could injure someone, breach a regulation, create a financial obligation or damage a professional relationship. Review can be lighter for reversible, low-impact housekeeping, provided sampling and escalation remain in place. “Human in the loop” is meaningful only when the reviewer has enough context, time and authority to reject or correct the result.

6. How will responsibility be assigned?
Name the process owner, technical owner, data owner and approving professional for each use case. A model vendor, integrator or software administrator cannot absorb the firm’s professional duty. Policies should state who pauses an agent, who investigates an incident and who approves a change to its instructions or permissions.
Using NIST’s AI RMF as a planning framework
The NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF) is voluntary guidance released January 26, 2023. NIST says the framework is being revised, so firms should treat it as a current reference whose status may evolve, not as an AEC-specific standard or certification. Its four functions provide a useful structure for an agent pilot.
| NIST function | Questions for an agentic AEC workflow | Practical evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Govern | Who owns the use case, permissions, policy exceptions, incidents and approval decisions? | Roles, policies, training records, escalation contacts and change history. |
| Map | What is the intended use, who is affected, what data and systems are involved, and what could go wrong? | Process map, data inventory, risk assessment, stakeholder list and defined success criteria. |
| Measure | How will accuracy, security, reliability, bias, latency and human-review quality be tested? | Representative test cases, error taxonomy, acceptance thresholds, logs and reviewer feedback. |
| Manage | What controls reduce identified risks, and what happens when performance or circumstances change? | Mitigations, approvals, monitoring, incident response, rollback procedure and periodic re-evaluation. |
NIST’s Generative AI Profile, published July 26, 2024, is a cross-sector companion to AI RMF 1.0. It suggests actions across the same governance lifecycle, but it is not an AEC-specific certification and does not endorse any particular agent product.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical preparation plan for a firm
- Choose one bounded workflow. Start with a repetitive process that has a clear owner, measurable inputs and reversible outputs. Avoid beginning with an unrestricted “company assistant” connected to every repository.
- Document the current process. Record each step, source, decision, exception and approval. This baseline exposes where an agent could help and where undocumented judgment is doing the real work.
- Classify data and permissions. Mark confidential, personal, contractual and safety-critical information. Create separate read and write identities, and remove inherited permissions that the workflow does not need.
- Define an approval matrix. Specify which outputs are drafts, which may be automatically filed and which require named professional approval. Include a stop condition for missing, conflicting or stale source data.
- Build a test set. Use representative documents and deliberately difficult cases: superseded revisions, incomplete fields, contradictory instructions and unavailable systems. Compare the agent’s output with an expert-reviewed answer.
- Instrument the workflow. Capture prompts or task instructions, source references, tool calls, outputs, approvals, edits and failures. Make logs accessible to the process owner without exposing more sensitive data than necessary.
- Run a limited pilot. Keep a human performing or checking the existing process while the agent operates in parallel. Track error types, review time, escalation frequency and user understanding rather than relying on a single success example.
- Review and expand deliberately. Approve a new permission or connected system only after the prior scope is stable. Re-test after model, connector, workflow or source-data changes.
How to compare agent approaches without unsupported rankings
The webinar does not provide a tested product comparison. A defensible evaluation compares the system around the model, using the same questions for every candidate or internal build.

This approach prevents a polished demonstration from being mistaken for production readiness. It also makes a small internal pilot comparable with a purchased service without assuming that either is automatically safer.

Common failure modes and corrective actions
- Starting with a vague objective: Replace “use AI to improve projects” with one workflow, one owner and a defined output.
- Overbroad access: Create a least-privilege service identity and separate read access from write access.
- Trusting fluent text: Require citations to source records, structured checks and professional review for consequential outputs.
- Ignoring stale or conflicting data: Make version and effective-date checks explicit, and stop when sources disagree.
- Logging too little: Record the full action path, not just the final response.
- Automating accountability away: Keep a named human owner and a documented approval point for safety, compliance, commercial and personnel decisions.
- Measuring only speed: Track rework, error severity, review burden, escalations and user comprehension alongside elapsed time.
- Expanding after a demo: Re-test whenever instructions, models, connectors, permissions or source systems change.
Speaker, software references and scope limits
The publisher identifies John Meyer as CEO and founder of Mosaic and describes Mosaic as project-planning and resource-management software with functions related to staffing, backlog and headcount. Those are publisher-provided descriptions, not an independent product review or evidence that Mosaic supplies the agentic capabilities discussed in the session.
The publisher’s webinar index also lists a separate Autodesk Forma webinar about design and construction. That listing is only a category-level signal; it does not connect Autodesk Forma to the agentic-AI claims in this session or establish specific current AI features.
The webinar is digital education available on demand. The available evidence supports viewing the session and consulting the NIST guidance linked above; it does not identify a physical product that is central to understanding this topic.
What a responsible conclusion looks like
Agentic AI could change how AEC professionals spend time, with more effort devoted to specifying work, supervising automated steps, checking evidence and improving systems. Whether that happens, and whether it produces a benefit, depends on data quality, integration reliability, permission boundaries, review capacity and the consequences of each decision. The most useful next move is not to grant an agent broad authority. It is to map one workflow, constrain its access, preserve an audit trail, test difficult cases and keep a qualified person accountable for the result.
