They let you position tie-down points to suit a load, but the rails and cleats are vehicle-specific—not universal short-bed hardware. Confirm your truck’s make, model year, bed length, rail setup, bedliner and accessory compatibility before buying.
What an adjustable short-bed hold-down is
A bed-rail tie-down system uses tracks mounted along the pickup bed and cleats that slide to selected positions. The cleats provide attachment points for securing cargo; some systems also allow compatible crossbars or bed dividers. A complete rail kit adds the tracks and cleats, while an extra-cleat kit adds points only to a compatible rail system already installed.
Vehicle-specific short-bed examples
These manufacturer examples show that adjustable systems are available for particular short-bed configurations. They are not evidence that either kit fits another truck, even if its bed is also described as short.

How to choose a kit that fits
- Identify the exact truck. Record make, model year, cab and bed configuration, and the bed length specified by the manufacturer.
- Check the existing bed setup. Determine whether the truck already has compatible rails or needs a complete rail-and-cleat kit. An additional-cleat package is not a substitute for tracks.
- Check accessory exclusions. Compare the manufacturer’s fit notes with your bedliner, tonneau or other bed cover, ramps, bed extender, storage boxes and other installed accessories.
- Verify the exact part number and fitment. Use the vehicle-specific fit checker or confirm with the manufacturer or an authorized parts seller before ordering; “short bed” by itself is not enough to establish compatibility.
- Read the truck’s manual. Follow its instructions for installing, positioning and locking cleats, as well as its load limits and cargo-securing guidance.
Install and lock cleats as the system specifies
Do not assume that a cleat is secure merely because it slides into a rail. Ford’s 2022 owner-manual guidance says to move the cleat to the desired position and lock it into a locking position. Ram’s 2022 manual for its equipped bed-rail system says to seat the cleat in a rail detent and tighten it. Those instructions apply to the named systems; use the procedure for your own truck and rail kit.
Ford sells a separate two-cleat kit, part NZ6Z26000A64A, for adding points to its compatible Cargo Management Rail system. Ford says the cleats slide into the track ends after the endcaps are removed. It is an add-on for existing compatible rails, not a standalone rail kit. Ford two-cleat kit listing

Understand load limits before securing cargo
Load limits depend on the specific rail system and on how the load is applied. For example, Ford’s 2022 owner manual gives maximum forces of 276 pounds between directly opposed cleats and 600 pounds between diagonally opposed cleats, and warns that overloading can damage bed walls. These are manual figures for the Ford system described there, not ratings for every Ford accessory or other pickup.
Ram’s 2022 manual for the RamBox-equipped-bed tie-down system specifies a maximum of 250 pounds per cleat and a maximum load angle of 45 degrees above horizontal. That guidance is specific to the equipped Ram system. Do not use either manufacturer’s manual figures as the rating for a different truck or aftermarket rail.

Use the owner’s manual and the accessory instructions together. Stay within the applicable limits, lock every cleat as directed, and secure cargo so the tie-down arrangement matches the system’s instructions.
