Get the full plan and use its own materials and hardware schedule before purchasing supplies or starting construction. In particular, an inset door panel does not establish what hinge type or size the design uses.
Do not confuse it with “A Gem of a Jewelry Box”
A similarly named project, A Gem of a Jewelry Box, is a different plan. WOOD Magazine identifies it as published March 31, 2020, and featured in WOOD issue 165, October 2005. Its description mentions curly maple, wenge, and dado, rabbet and groove joinery. Those details belong to the jewelry-box project, not the jewelry chest.

Woodcraft lists the separate box plan as model DP-00476 and likewise describes its materials and joinery. Compare the exact project name and magazine issue when locating a plan; do not use the box’s material or joinery details as a shopping list for the chest.

Start with the exact title, A Gem of a Jewelry Chest, and verify that the listing associates it with WOOD issue 191 from July 2009. The WOOD Store summary establishes the chest’s overall dimensions and design description, but not the detailed specifications needed to build it.
