If your headboard knocks against the wall with every small movement, first find out whether the noise comes from wall contact or a loose bed-frame connection. Tighten loose connections; if the headboard itself is stable, create a little clearance or cushion the contact points with adhesive rubber bumpers or felt pads.

Find out what is making the noise

With the bed stationary, look for movement at the headboard, frame joints and brackets. If the headboard shifts at a joint, the problem is likely a loose connection; if the frame is firm but the headboard reaches the wall as the bed moves, the contact is the likely source. Sleep Number’s noise troubleshooting guidance recommends checking contact with nearby surfaces and tightening headboard and footboard brackets.

Fix a loose headboard or frame connection

Check the headboard and footboard brackets and other accessible frame connections. Tighten loose bolts according to the bed’s instructions. Padding the wall contact point is not a substitute for repairing a loose joint: a headboard that rocks needs its connections and support assessed before you rely on cushioning.

Stop a stable headboard from hitting the wall

Create a small gap

Pull the bed slightly away from the wall, if the room allows. Leave enough clearance that ordinary movement does not bring the headboard into contact; this requires no added hardware but uses some floor space.

  • Warm Tips: Measure the distance between your shaking furniture and the wall, then choose the right size , our headboard anti shake too can be adjusted from 30mm to 68mm

Cushion the contact points

If moving the bed is impractical, apply adhesive rubber bumpers or felt pads where the headboard meets the wall. Bunnings Workshop’s advice for a headboard that knocks against the wall suggests both options. Choose pads and adhesive suitable for the headboard’s finish, place them at the actual contact points, and make sure they stay in place. Pads can soften light tapping, but they will not stabilize a loose frame.

If the headboard still moves, check its support

Recheck the frame connections and determine whether the bed’s design calls for additional support. Corner brackets or a dedicated stabilizer may be relevant for some frames, but they are not universal fixes: choose hardware only if it suits the headboard and bed design and follows the manufacturer’s instructions. Do not drill into or mount the headboard without first checking those instructions and the wall construction.

For a wall-mounted headboard, match fasteners to the wall

A headboard designed for wall mounting can avoid movement at the bed-frame connection, but its attachment must be appropriate for the actual wall. IKEA’s NORDLI headboard guidance specifies that fasteners must suit the wall material. There is no single anchor or fastener choice that is right for every wall and headboard; follow the product instructions and account for the wall construction.

Take extra care with an adjustable base

Adjustable bases move, so use the installation manual for your exact model and preserve its safety clearances. For the installation described in its Traditional FlexFit accessories guide, Sleep Number says the gap from the bottom of the headboard cross member to the top of the mattress must be no more than 3 inches to reduce the risk of a person or pet becoming caught while the base moves. That limit is specific to the described Sleep Number installation; do not assume it applies to other systems.
