K Block is a three-storey classroom building at Willetton Senior High School in Perth, Western Australia. It contains 23 classrooms in total: 22 general classrooms and one inclusive education classroom. The Government of Western Australia reported a $15.6 million investment and a capacity for more than 500 students across the building’s Mathematics, English, Health and Physical Education facilities. The available sources establish what was built, what it cost according to the government, and how it is used. They do not establish that the building has raised academic results.
What K Block is
K Block is a completed three-storey facility at Willetton Senior High School. The Government of Western Australia announced its official opening in 2024, and the school’s 2024 annual report confirms that the block was completed that year and includes 23 classrooms plus facilities supporting Physical Education. The table below separates each reported figure from its source and its current status.
| Item | What is reported | Source and date | Status of the claim |
|---|---|---|---|
| Building | K Block, a three-storey classroom block | Government of Western Australia, 2024; Willetton Senior High School annual report, 2024 | Completed in 2024 according to the school |
| Investment | $15.6 million | Government of Western Australia, 2024 | Government-reported figure; no cost breakdown in the sources reviewed |
| Classrooms | 22 general classrooms plus one inclusive education classroom | Government of Western Australia, 2024 | Government description |
| Total classrooms | 23 | Willetton Senior High School prospectus, 2025; annual report, 2024 | School’s count, which includes the inclusive education room |
| Capacity | More than 500 students | Government of Western Australia, 2024 | Stated capacity of the building’s facilities, not an enrolment count |
| Subjects | Mathematics, English, Health, Physical Education | Government of Western Australia, 2024; school prospectus, 2025 | Prospectus confirms these uses |
Why the classroom count differs between sources
Readers will see two numbers. The government announcement describes 22 general classrooms and treats the inclusive education room separately. The school’s prospectus and annual report describe 23 classrooms. Both are correct when read together: 22 general rooms plus one inclusive education room makes 23. If you count only the general rooms, you will arrive at 22 and miss the inclusive education space.
Cost and capacity
The $15.6 million investment
The $15.6 million figure comes from the Government of Western Australia’s announcement of the official opening. It is the government’s reported investment in the classroom block. The sources reviewed do not break that total down into construction, fit-out or other components, so it should be read as a headline project figure rather than an itemised cost.

Design features and the government’s description
The government describes K Block as having accessible design, adjacent informal learning spaces, student social spaces, changerooms and amenities. These are descriptions of design intent and features as announced. The sources do not include a post-occupancy accessibility assessment, so “accessible” describes what the government says the building provides rather than an independently verified result.

These are political statements about the project’s purpose and value. They describe what officials expect the building to support; they are not measurements of its effect.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the new building raise educational standards?
The headline phrase “setting higher standard for education” is promotional framing, and the sources do not support it as a finding. Nothing reviewed shows that K Block caused improved academic results. The minister’s reference to “outstanding results” describes the school’s existing performance and an aspiration for the new facility; it is not evidence of a change caused by the building.
The school’s annual report discusses student achievement and the completion of K Block as separate matters. It does not attribute results to the building. Assessing any effect on learning would require outcome data the sources do not contain, such as the school’s results compared across years before and after K Block came into use.
What is confirmed and what is not
- Confirmed by the school’s 2024 annual report: K Block was completed in 2024 and includes 23 classrooms plus Physical Education facilities.
- Confirmed by the school prospectus: the building is used for Mathematics, English, Health and Physical Education, and the school describes 23 classrooms.
- Reported by the Government of Western Australia: the $15.6 million investment, the capacity for more than 500 students, and the accessible design and student spaces.
- Not established by the sources: any change in academic results, any post-occupancy accessibility assessment, and any cost breakdown.
The matching news report by PerthNow’s Matt Zis, dated 2 March 2024, describes the new classrooms as “taking learning up a level.” It is a news framing of the official announcement, not an independent assessment of the building.
