Sometimes—but ordinary Loctite threadlocker will not rebuild stripped threads. Henkel sells a separate product, LOCTITE PC 3967, specifically as a stripped-thread repair kit for certain metal and wood assemblies. Suitability depends on the damaged part, fastener, and service conditions; check the product’s current instructions before relying on it.
First determine whether the threads are stripped or the fastener is loosening
A fastener that still engages intact threads but loosens under vibration presents a threadlocking problem. Physically damaged or missing thread geometry presents a repair problem. The distinction matters: Henkel describes threadlockers as products for securing threaded fasteners against loosening, while it identifies PC 3967 separately as a stripped-thread repair kit.
Threadlocker cures when confined between close-fitting metal surfaces. It can help keep a suitable, intact threaded joint from loosening; it does not restore missing thread material. A wicking grade may flow into an already assembled joint, but that does not make it a thread-rebuilding product.

What Henkel says about PC 3967
Henkel describes PC 3967 as a two-part kit supplied with a one-part release agent. The product page says it is intended for stripped threaded assemblies in metal or wood and does not require inserts, special tools, or a machine shop. These are manufacturer claims, not independent test results.

The product page states handling strength in five minutes and full strength in two hours. It also specifies fasteners up to SAE Grade 5 (English) and 8.8 (metric), and lists torque up to 1,538 in.-lb. Treat these figures as product-specific published claims, not universal guarantees: the page is undated, and the result for a particular repair can depend on following the exact current instructions and on the application.
Henkel’s broader repair-kit overview also mentions a temperature limit of 300°F (149°C) and resistance to most shop fluids. That overview does not establish that these specifications apply specifically to PC 3967, so do not assume they are its ratings. Henkel repair kits overview

How to decide whether a thread-repair kit is appropriate
There is no one repair method that can be recommended for every stripped hole. Before choosing a repair compound, insert, retapping, part replacement, or professional repair, assess:
- Part and material: Confirm that the product is intended for the workpiece material and the kind of threaded assembly involved.
- Fastener and load: Check the fastener size and grade, expected load, and consequences if the joint fails. Do not infer suitability for a safety-critical, heavily loaded, pressurized, or otherwise consequential joint from a general product description.
- Operating conditions: Verify temperature and fluid exposure against the exact product documentation for your market and application.
- Service needs: Consider whether the joint must later be dismantled and what repair approach the equipment manufacturer permits.
- Instructions and cure: Follow the current regional technical sheet and package directions, including preparation, assembly, and cure requirements. Do not substitute threadlocker cure times for PC 3967 instructions.
Henkel’s general threadlocking guidance gives typical fixture strength of 10–30 minutes and full cure of 24 hours at room temperature on active metals such as steel; passive metals may cure more slowly. When not to rely on ordinary threadlocker
If the fastener cannot engage because the threads are physically damaged, LOCTITE 243 or 290 is not a substitute for restoring the thread geometry. If the threads are intact and the problem is loosening, a suitable threadlocker may address that different failure mode; choose the grade and application using its product instructions.
For damaged threads, PC 3967 is a product Henkel specifically markets for repair, but its stated scope does not prove it is suitable for every repair. If the joint’s failure could cause injury or major damage, obtain application-specific guidance rather than treating a generic product claim as approval.
