IKEA has not publicly explained why it discontinued the Jerker desk specifically. The closest official context is that IKEA says products may leave its range as it develops new products—and that discontinuation does not necessarily mean weak sales or consumer demand. That general policy is not proof of the reason behind the Jerker decision.

What is known about the Jerker’s discontinuation?

A December 20, 2006 post in an Ars Technica forum thread relayed a customer’s report that an IKEA representative had said the Jerker was discontinued and remaining stock would sell through. That is a contemporaneous, secondhand account, not an official IKEA announcement. Read the forum discussion.

Catalog records show Jerker desks and accessories in a 2005 US IKEA catalog and a Swedish Work catalog. A reproduction of a 2007 catalog also lists a Jerker desk. These records establish that the product appeared in catalogs, but catalog publication does not confirm store availability. The 2007 reproduction is hosted by a third party, so it should be treated cautiously. Together, the records do not establish a single worldwide end date.

What reason has IKEA given?

IKEA’s current US customer-service page says: “IKEA products are not necessarily discontinued because of any sales or consumer demand but for product development.” IKEA’s explanation of product discontinuations. This is a general statement about its product range, not a Jerker-specific explanation. The sources available do not establish whether sales, cost, design strategy, or plans for a successor factored into the decision.

What was the IKEA Jerker?

IKEA catalogs described the Jerker as a computer desk or workstation with adjustable shelves. The Swedish Work catalog said one setup could be assembled as a standing workstation; the 2005 US catalog also described a computer-table configuration adjustable for sitting or standing. Catalogs listed related items including a drawer unit and CPU holder. These details describe the product range, not why it ended.

Can you still buy a Jerker from IKEA?

IKEA says its US As-Is section may include discontinued, gently used, or display items, but selection varies by store and changes daily. IKEA’s guidance on purchasing discontinued products. That general guidance does not confirm that a Jerker is currently available. Check with a local IKEA store for its current As-Is selection; secondhand listings may also be worth checking, though availability will vary.
