Start with what the dryer is doing: if Sensor Dry stops after a few minutes, clean the moisture-sensor bars and check the load; if it runs with heat but takes too long, check airflow; if it produces no heat, check the selected cycle, error code, and power or gas supply. Ventless models need a different maintenance path. A damp load does not, by itself, prove the sensor has failed.
First identify the symptom and dryer type
Samsung’s troubleshooting advice varies by model and market. Find the model number and consult its user manual for the correct cycle names, buttons, load limits, vent requirements, and maintenance steps. Samsung’s US troubleshooting guide covers clothes that remain damp; its ventless-dryer guidance applies to ventless models.
- Stops early and clothes are wet: check sensor bars, load size, and fabric mix.
- Runs for a long time and produces heat: check the lint filter and, on vented models, the exhaust path.
- Runs but produces no heat: follow the no-heat checks rather than focusing on the moisture sensor.
- Ventless model: follow its instructions for the lint filter, heat exchanger, drainage, cycle, and load.
If Sensor Dry stops early and clothes are wet
Clean the moisture-sensor bars
Sensor Dry uses bars inside the drum to detect moisture. Samsung describes them as two curved metal bars, usually near the lint-filter housing at the front of the drum. Residue from dryer sheets or fabric softener can interfere with sensing and cause a cycle to end too soon. With the dryer off, wipe the bars gently with a soft cloth and a drop of dish soap, then follow the manual for your model. Keep the lint filter installed. See Samsung’s dryer cleaning and maintenance guidance and dryer cleaning instructions.
Check whether the load can contact the bars
A very small load may not brush against the bars enough for reliable sensing. Samsung gives about four regular-sized bath towels as an approximate minimum load for sensor contact; follow your model’s manual if it specifies a different limit. Do not overload the drum.

A mixed load can also end with heavy pieces damp: light items may dry first and prompt Sensor Dry to stop. Separate items by weight, or use the Mixed Load Bell or Damp Alert if your model has it. Samsung describes the alert as signaling at about 80 percent dry on applicable models, allowing lighter items to be removed while heavier pieces continue. Feature names and availability vary; check the dryer icons and Mixed Load Bell information.
Adjust the cycle or finish with Timed Dry
If clothes are only slightly damp, raise Dry Level on a compatible Sensor Dry cycle. The setting changes the cycle endpoint, but options depend on the selected cycle and model. Timed Dry runs for the duration you set and can finish a load when appropriate for the fabric and your manual. Samsung lists cycle-specific controls in its cycles and settings guide.

If the dryer heats but takes too long
Check the lint filter and exhaust path
Clean the lint filter before or after each load, as directed for your model. On a vented dryer, inspect the exhaust route from the appliance to the outdoors for lint buildup, crushing, kinks, gaps, or unsuitable duct material. Restricted airflow can prevent moisture from escaping and extend drying time. Samsung’s general guidance is to clean the exhaust vent once or twice per year; the exact duct material and maximum length must come from your model’s installation instructions. Samsung explains these checks in its troubleshooting guide and Vent Blockage test information.
Do not disconnect ductwork or attempt installation work unless the manual describes the procedure and it can be done safely. If the duct is inaccessible, damaged, or requires work beyond routine cleaning, arrange qualified service.

Use the Vent Blockage test only if your model supports it
Not every Samsung dryer has this test, and the button sequence varies. Check the manual before starting. Samsung says the drum should be empty and the dryer sufficiently cool. A passing test does not replace periodic vent cleaning.
Consider the laundry and cycle
Laundry that comes out of the washer very wet, bulky items, an overloaded drum, or a cycle choice such as Eco Dry can contribute to longer drying. Use a cycle suited to the fabric and load, and avoid overloading. Samsung’s cycle and setting descriptions explain which options are available on supported models.

If the dryer runs but has no heat
No heat is different from a Sensor Dry cycle ending with damp clothes. Check whether the selected cycle is intended to heat and whether the display shows an error code. Samsung describes a basic heat check using Time Dry with Eco Dry off, followed by checking for warmth after a short run; use your model’s manual for the exact controls and safe procedure.
- Electric dryer: verify the required electrical supply and breaker. A partially tripped circuit can leave the controls and drum working while preventing heat.
- Gas dryer: verify that the gas supply is connected and turned on, as the manual directs.
- Error code or unresolved no-heat condition: record the code and contact Samsung Support or a qualified technician. Do not work on electrical, gas, or installation components unless qualified.

If your Samsung dryer is ventless
Do not assume an external exhaust duct applies. Ventless models have a different maintenance path. Follow the specific model instructions and check the circuit breaker or fuses, lint filter, heat exchanger, cycle choice, load size, and drainage hose or water tank. Clean the heat exchanger when the machine prompts you to do so. Check an exterior exhaust hood only if your model’s instructions say it has one. Samsung’s ventless dryer troubleshooting guide covers these model-dependent checks.
When to request service
Request Samsung service if the appropriate cleaning and model-specific checks do not resolve the problem, or if an error code or Vent Blockage test result persists. Have the model number and any displayed code ready; they help identify the correct next diagnosis. Samsung provides service options through its dryer troubleshooting and support page.
