Waterfall Wonder is a regional guide to 16 scenic, accessible waterfalls on public lands in the greater Chattanooga area. Published by the Southeast Tennessee Tourism Association, it points visitors toward waterfalls and creek-side hikes in several state parks and national forest lands. It is a useful starting point for planning, but not a live trail-access report.
What is the Waterfall Wonder guide?
The Southeast Tennessee Tourism Association’s 2023 regional guide, Waterfall Wonder in Southeast Tennessee, features a selection of 16 waterfalls described as scenic and accessible on public lands in the greater Chattanooga area. The guide presents visits as opportunities for waterfall viewing and creek-side hiking. Its reviewed description does not name all 16 sites or provide route-by-route details.
The guide identifies waterfalls in or near these public lands:
- South Cumberland State Park
- Cherokee National Forest
- Cumberland Trail State Park
- Fall Creek Falls State Park
These names describe the guide’s scope; they do not establish current access, trail conditions, or that every waterfall is open for visits.

Where can you get the guide?
The 2023 guide says it can be downloaded from SoutheastTennessee.com or picked up at Outdoor Chattanooga, Chattanooga Airport, or a regional Tennessee Welcome Center. Those distribution options come from the guide’s dated description, and their current availability has not been confirmed. Check the publisher’s site before making a special trip to collect a printed copy.
How to plan a waterfall visit
Use the guide to identify possible destinations, then confirm the details for the specific trail and land manager before setting out. The guide excerpt does not establish current trail closures, fees, operating hours, seasonal access, parking rules, or the distance and difficulty of individual routes.

- Choose a destination. Use the guide’s named public lands as a starting point; consult the relevant park or forest authority for current waterfall and trail information.
- Check access conditions. Verify whether the route is open and review any current notices, hours, fees, parking rules, and seasonal restrictions with the land manager.
- Match the route to your group. Find current information on hike distance, difficulty, viewing access, facilities, and hazards. The guide’s general description does not supply those details for each waterfall.
- Prepare for the terrain. Wear stable shoes, as the guide advises. Its safety guidance also warns visitors to avoid slippery rocks and dangerous crossings and to keep children a safe distance from dangerous ledges.
What the guide does—and does not—tell you
Waterfall Wonder is a regional overview, not a substitute for current site-specific information. Its selection of 16 waterfalls and its distribution instructions are described in a 2023 publication. Conditions and access can change, so rely on the relevant land manager for the latest information before choosing a route.
