To turn on a Samsung ice maker, enable its ice-making setting on the refrigerator’s control panel or, on compatible models, in the refrigerator app. The exact button sequence depends on the model: most refrigerators should not display Ice Off, while Samsung Top Freezer models should display Ice On. Check your model’s manual before using a specific sequence.
Find the ice-maker control
Look on the refrigerator’s control panel for a setting labeled Ice Maker, Ice Maker Off, Ice Off or Ice On. On compatible Family Hub refrigerators, the setting may be available in Fridge Manager; some compatible models also offer ice-maker controls through SmartThings. Enable ice production
Navigation-button display
For some models with a navigation panel, Samsung UK’s general instructions are to wake the display, navigate until the Ice Maker indicator blinks, select the on setting with the navigation controls, then wait about five seconds or confirm the selection. This is not a universal sequence; use your refrigerator’s manual to identify the correct controls. Samsung UK’s instructions explain the panel-specific steps.
Dedicated or touch control
If your refrigerator has a dedicated Ice Maker control, follow the manual for that model. Depending on the design, the control may be a touch setting or a button that you hold for about three seconds to toggle ice production. Do not assume that a long press applies to every Samsung refrigerator. Samsung UK’s control examples show why the exact panel matters.

Use an app when supported
If the refrigerator supports app controls, open Fridge Manager on Family Hub or the relevant refrigerator controls in SmartThings and check the ice-maker setting. The app route is model-dependent; if you cannot find the setting, use the control panel or consult the manual.
Check the status indicator
- Most models: Ice Off should not be lit when the ice maker is enabled.
- Top Freezer models: Ice On should be lit for ice production.
- Models with two ice makers: Check each maker’s indicator separately; one may be off while the other is on.

What to do when using a new ice maker
After first turning on a new ice maker, allow it to run for 1–2 days, then discard the first 1–3 batches of ice. If the refrigerator has a connected water dispenser, Samsung also recommends dispensing water and discarding the first glasses. Follow the directions for your specific model. Samsung UK’s first-use guidance and its BESPOKE Dual Ice Maker instructions cover these steps.
If the setting is on but no ice appears
- Check that the ice bucket is fully seated.
- Check whether the freezer door and ice compartment close and seal properly.
- If the refrigerator still does not make ice, consult the model manual and Samsung support for model-specific troubleshooting.
A bucket that is not seated correctly or a compartment that does not seal can interfere with ice production even when the setting is enabled. Samsung lists these checks in its ice-maker troubleshooting guidance.

Samsung states that each ice maker in the BESPOKE Dual Ice Maker provides 3 pounds of ice per day, or 6 pounds total when both are turned on.
