First, check the full display
Look closely at every character and indicator, not just the freezer display. Samsung’s U.S. support guide distinguishes the 21E fan error from Cooling Off displays such as OF OF, O FF, OFF OFF, or scrolling temperature bars. A Samsung/Dacor manual for a particular model family also describes a Cooling Off display with 0 on the refrigerator indicator and FF on the freezer indicator.

Is FF a freezer-fan error?
Not by itself. Samsung’s U.S. guide labels 21E, not plain FF, as the freezer-fan error. Samsung explains that 21E means the electronics are not sensing rotational feedback from the fan when it is expected to turn. That identifies a detected fan-feedback problem, not necessarily a failed motor: Samsung lists icing, a door or gasket issue, and fan-motor failure as possible causes.
What to do if the display says 21E
Check the door and seal
- Make sure the freezer door closes fully and is not being held open by food or packaging.
- Check that the gasket sits against the cabinet around the door rather than leaving a visible gap.
These are checks, not a diagnosis. If the code persists or comes back, Samsung’s guidance is to seek service. Refer to Samsung Canada’s 21E guidance and the instructions for your model.

Do not try to erase the code as a first step
Samsung U.S. warns: “Unless directed, do not unplug the refrigerator. Also, do not attempt any interaction with the panel to try to make the error code ‘go away.’” The warning is Samsung’s general advice for error codes; follow model-specific instructions or directions from Samsung support if they apply. What to do if you see a Cooling Off display
Cooling Off mode is not a cooling fault in the same sense as 21E: it disables cooling. Samsung says its mode can be indicated by OF OF, O FF, OFF OFF, or scrolling temperature bars. The 0/FF indicator combination is documented for the Samsung/Dacor manual’s covered model family, not every Samsung refrigerator.

Check the display first: a documented Cooling Off indicator means the appliance is not set to cool, while a 21E code points to a freezer-fan feedback issue. If cooling problems continue or the display does not match the guidance for your model, consult Samsung’s error-code guide and general cooling troubleshooting, or contact Samsung support.
