Samsung uses 22E and 22C for a refrigerator fan error. A door left open too long can contribute, and the fan may be frozen or jammed; the code alone does not prove the fan motor has failed. Check that the doors close fully, then follow Samsung’s code-specific open-door defrost and restart instructions. If the error returns, contact Samsung or arrange service.
What the 22E or 22C code means
Samsung identifies both codes as fridge-fan errors. Its support information associates the warning with a possible evaporator fan motor issue, while its troubleshooting guidance also identifies a door left open and a fan that may have frozen or become jammed. The display is a sign of a fan-related problem, not a definitive diagnosis that the motor needs replacement. What to check and try
- Check the doors. Make sure no food or other obstruction is preventing a door from closing fully. Consider whether a door was left open for an extended period.
- Follow Samsung’s specific reset-and-defrost instructions for 22E/22C. Unplug the refrigerator and leave its doors open for a few hours. Then reconnect it, close the doors, and resume normal use. Samsung US cautions against unplugging the refrigerator unless directed; its 22E/22C instructions are the relevant direction for this code.
- Watch for the code to return. If it does, contact Samsung support or request service rather than repeatedly resetting the refrigerator. Samsung also advises against using the control panel simply to clear the display, because doing so can make diagnosis more difficult.

When a repair or replacement part makes sense
If the error persists, a technician can determine whether the fan, a frost-related obstruction, or another model-specific issue is responsible. Samsung’s support Q&A names the evaporator fan motor, but the code alone does not establish that replacing it will fix the refrigerator.
