Samsung’s U.S. error-code guide defines 33E (sometimes written 33 E) as an “Ice Pipe Heater Error.” It points to the ice-maker fill-tube heater circuit, but it does not prove the heater itself has failed. A connector or wiring problem may also be responsible, so record your refrigerator’s full model number and keep the code visible for model-specific diagnosis.
What does Samsung refrigerator error code 33E mean?
Samsung labels 33E “Ice Pipe Heater Error.” The fault concerns the heater circuit for the water pipe that supplies the ice maker. Samsung’s refrigerator error-code guide identifies the code and advises against unplugging the refrigerator or trying to clear the code from the panel unless instructed, because doing so can make diagnosis harder.
Does 33E mean the heater needs replacement?
No—not by itself. In its support answer for the RF32FMQDBSR/AA, Samsung lists an open heater and a loose or bad wire connector as possible causes. Repair references for other model families also discuss wiring and, in some cases, the control board. The code is a diagnostic clue; a technician needs to identify the fault before deciding which part, if any, to replace.
Resistance figures are model-specific, not a universal 33E test value. Samsung’s answer for the RF32FMQDBSR/AA gives around 62 ohms. Sears PartsDirect lists around 102 ohms for heater circuits in referenced RS30/RSG307 and RF26 model families. Those figures apply to their stated model contexts; use the service information for the refrigerator’s complete model number rather than treating either value as a general specification. Sears PartsDirect is a secondary repair source, so defer to model-specific official service documentation.

What should you do when 33E appears?
- Record the code and model. Note whether the display shows 33E or 33 E, and write down the complete refrigerator model number from its identification label.
- Leave the code uncleared unless Samsung instructs otherwise. Do not unplug the refrigerator or use the panel to make the error disappear unless directed; preserving the displayed fault can help with diagnosis.
- Request model-specific help. Contact Samsung support or a qualified appliance technician and provide the exact model and code. Ask for diagnosis of the ice-pipe-heater circuit, including its connector and wiring.
- Use a test-button procedure only for its intended purpose. Samsung’s ice-maker troubleshooting guide describes general ice-maker testing, but that procedure does not replace 33E-specific diagnosis. If an error remains after an instructed troubleshooting step, follow Samsung’s error-code guidance and request service.
Accessing internal components and measuring heater resistance are repair tasks. If you are not trained to work on appliance electrical circuits, leave those checks to a qualified technician rather than attempting them yourself.
