The $15 Turbo Vac 800 offer at Home Depot was a December 2003 deal, not a current promotion. The product was the Turbo Vac 800 Dual Action, model HVC-12. A forum user who reproduced the store listing gave Home Depot SKU 185618 and a price of $14.95 per unit, which the headline rounded to $15. Nothing available today confirms that this unit, that price, or any stock still exists. The overheating reports from that thread are individual accounts, not tested findings.
What the 2003 deal was
The deal was discussed in an AnandTech Forums thread that began on December 22, 2003. The details below come from that thread, which reproduced the retailer listing. They are a historical record of the offer, not a current product sheet.

| Offer end date or quantity limit | Not stated | Thread does not give either |
| Current price | Not stated | No current source checked |
| Current stock | Not stated | Home Depot category page does not list HVC-12 |
What the listing claimed
As reproduced in the thread, the listing described a vacuum and blower with the following features. These are the retailer’s claims as quoted by a forum participant; they have not been checked against manufacturer documentation.
- A vacuum and blower function in one unit
- 12 cleaning tools and accessories
- A HEPA filter
- A carrying case
- Stated uses: cars, workshops, household cleanup, tight corners, and inflating rafts or air mattresses
The thread starter, identified as Muse, also framed the unit’s role in plain terms: “It’s just for those small jobs.” That is one user’s view of its limited capacity and intended use, not a manufacturer statement.

Does the Turbo Vac 800 overheat?
Thread participants reported overheating, and the title’s question comes from those reports. No recall, safety notice, or manufacturer statement on heat was found in the material reviewed. The thread also gives no tested run time, no thermal limit, and no failure rate. Individual accounts cannot tell you how often this happens.
A report on the 800 while vacuuming a car
One participant said their Turbo Vac 800 overheated while vacuuming a car and resumed working after sitting for roughly 30 minutes. This is a single owner’s experience under one kind of use. It does not establish a cooling time or a duty limit for the unit.

A report on a 600-watt model
Another participant described a 600-watt model overheating after about ten minutes. That is a different model, so this report should not be counted as evidence about the HVC-12 or the 800.
The foam filter and exhaust suggestion
A participant suggested removing the foam filter or altering the exhaust to address heat. This is speculation from a user, not tested repair guidance. Do not modify a motor or airflow path on the strength of that comment; the thread offers no safe procedure for it.

Is the $15 deal still available?
Home Depot’s current shop-vacuum category page shows the broader category but does not identify the Turbo Vac 800 HVC-12. That means the page neither confirms nor rules out stock of this model, and it cannot confirm the old price. To check for yourself:
- Go to homedepot.com and search for “HVC-12” and for “Turbo Vac 800.”
- If a result appears, confirm that its model number reads exactly HVC-12. Do not treat a similar name as the same unit.
- Open the product page and read the current price and availability there. A 2003 store SKU may not map to a current item number, so match on the model number rather than the SKU.
- To check a specific store, use the store inventory option on the product page if one is shown for that item.
- For resale listings, compare the photos and model number against HVC-12, and check the seller’s history before paying.
- If none of these searches returns a matching unit, treat the 2003 offer as expired.
Choosing a shop vacuum for heavy or sustained use
If you were drawn to this unit because you need a compact vacuum for car cleaning or workshop cleanup, the overheating reports are a reason to check specifications before buying any model. Look for the following in the manufacturer’s own documentation:

- Stated duty cycle or maximum continuous run time, and whether it applies to wet or dry pickup
- Thermal protection on the motor, and whether it resets on its own after cooling or needs a manual reset
- Filter type, how it is cleaned, and whether a replacement is sold for the model
- Tank or bag capacity relative to the jobs you expect to do
- Warranty length and whether it covers the motor
- Whether the attachments you need are included, rather than sold separately
Matching the unit to the job matters more than the price. A vacuum sized for short bursts of tidying will be stressed by long daily shifts, whatever its label says.
