Neither guarantees a perfectly smooth result. The right choice depends on the transfer or fabric, the product’s instructions, and a flat, stable pressing setup.
What does a pressing sheet do?
A reusable heat-resistant sheet is placed over a compatible heat-transfer project to help protect the project and press platen from residue or direct contact with the heat plate. Cricut says its Heat-Resistant Pressing Sheet is intended for iron-on projects and can be used wherever its Heat Guide calls for an “Iron-On Protective Sheet.” Brother also describes non-stick covers or sheets as a way to protect heat-press platens (Brother USA Support).
A sewing pressing cloth is different: it is placed between an iron and garment fabric to help reduce shine or scorching. A clean, lint-free cloth may be suitable for ordinary garment pressing; Dritz also sells a purpose-made pressing sheet for sewing, quilting, and crafting (Prym Americas). These tools are related, but not interchangeable in every application.
Choose by project, not by the word “sheet”
- Compatible HTV or iron-on: A reusable heat-resistant cover sheet may be appropriate when the transfer-material maker’s instructions call for one. Cricut says its sheet is for iron-on projects.
- Cricut Infusible Ink or sublimation: Cricut says not to use its Heat-Resistant Pressing Sheet for these projects; it recommends white cardstock or butcher paper as the protective barrier instead. Those are project-specific recommendations, not universal substitutes for every transfer process. See Cricut’s product guidance and troubleshooting guidance.
- Garment ironing or sewing: Use a pressing cloth suited to the fabric and follow garment-care and cloth instructions. A cloth can help reduce direct heat contact, shine, and scorching, but does not replace checking the fabric’s heat tolerance (Utah Education Network).
What to compare before buying
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Project compatibility | Confirm that the sheet is recommended for the transfer type or fabric. Cricut excludes its sheet from Infusible Ink and sublimation projects. |
| Coverage | Choose dimensions that cover the area the instructions require, without leaving the project or platen exposed. |
| Material and temperature limits | Use the rating for the specific product, not a generic assumption about all heat-resistant sheets. Cricut’s product limits are listed below. |
| Reuse and cleaning | Check whether the manufacturer describes the product as reusable and follow its particular cleaning instructions. |
Cricut lists its Heat-Resistant Pressing Sheet as 12 × 16 inches (30.5 × 40.6 cm). For this specific product, Cricut gives a continuous working-temperature limit of 500°F (260°C) and a short-exposure limit of 608°F (320°C); these are manufacturer specifications, not performance guarantees or ratings for other sheets. The shop listing describes PTFE construction, reusability, and compatibility with EasyPress 2 and EasyPress 3 (Cricut Shop).

Why pressing marks can still happen
A barrier can help avoid direct contact, but it cannot prevent every mark. Cricut warns: “Heat-sensitive fabrics may melt or get singed when they contact the heat plate.” It also identifies high pressure over bulky seams, buttons, zippers, and other raised areas as possible causes of press marks (Cricut troubleshooting guidance).
Use the material maker’s temperature, timing, and pressure instructions, and set up the project on a flat, stable, heat-safe surface. Raised seams or hardware can keep the work from lying evenly, so a sheet alone will not make an uneven setup smooth.

How to clean and care for a pressing sheet
Care varies by product, so use its own instructions rather than applying one sheet’s cleaning method to another. For Cricut Heat-Resistant Pressing Sheets, Cricut says: “To clean Cricut Heat-Resistant Pressing Sheets, wipe clean with a damp cloth.” It advises against harsh chemicals, soap, a dishwasher, and a washing machine (Cricut Help Center; edited May 1, 2025). Dritz gives separate guidance for fusible or glue residue on its pressing sheet (Prym Americas).
