For manual V60 brewing, a narrow-spout gooseneck kettle is useful because it helps you control how much water you pour and how quickly. It is not mandatory, and that control alone does not guarantee better-tasting coffee. Choose between a stovetop kettle and an electric one first; then check capacity, whether you need settable temperature control, and compatibility with your cooktop or electrical supply.
Why use a gooseneck kettle for V60?
V60 brewing involves pouring water by hand over coffee grounds. A narrow spout can make it easier to direct the stream and regulate its amount and rate. Hario’s official V60 guidance describes that control benefit; it does not establish that a gooseneck is essential or that it guarantees a particular flavor outcome.
If you already have a kettle that lets you pour steadily and precisely, you may be able to brew without buying a dedicated one. A gooseneck is worth considering when more deliberate pouring control is a priority.
Choose the kettle type that fits your routine
Stovetop gooseneck
A stovetop kettle is a straightforward option if you prefer to heat water on your cooktop and pour from the kettle. Hario’s V60 Buono 1L listing specifies a stainless-steel body and lid and a practical capacity of 600 ml. The listed 1L name should not be confused with the practical capacity figure: consider how much water you need for your brew and whether you want room for additional pours.

Before buying, check whether the kettle works with your cooktop and whether its filled weight and handle suit you. Do not assume every stovetop gooseneck is induction-compatible.
Electric gooseneck
An electric kettle heats water in the kettle itself, which can suit a setup where you want a dedicated appliance. The cited US listing for the Hario V60 Buono electric drip kettle gives a minimum capacity of 150 ml, a maximum of 800 ml, and electrical specifications of AC120V/60Hz and 1000W. These are specifications for the US-listed model, not a promise of compatibility in other markets. Confirm the exact regional model and its electrical requirements before purchase.

Basic electric versus temperature control
“Electric” does not necessarily mean that you can set a target temperature. Hario UK lists a basic electric model that boils water separately from a temperature-control model. If adjusting the target temperature matters to you, verify that the exact model or SKU offers that function rather than relying on a general product name or category.
What to check before choosing
- Capacity: Match the kettle’s usable capacity to the amount of water you typically pour. The cited Buono stovetop listing gives 600 ml practical capacity; the US electric listing gives 150 ml minimum and 800 ml maximum.
- Heating method: Decide whether you want to heat water on a cooktop or in an electric kettle.
- Temperature settings: Confirm that the precise model has settable temperature if that is a requirement.
- Compatibility: For stovetop models, check your heat source. For electric models, check voltage and frequency for your region.
- Handling: Consider filled weight, handle comfort, and the stream you can manage comfortably; specifications alone do not establish how a kettle will feel in your hand.

The cited copper model listing gives a practical capacity of 700 ml and says it is suitable for gas, electric, and halogen heat sources, but not induction. Its appearance or material should not take precedence over confirming that it works with your cooktop.

- Choose your heating method. Pick stovetop if you want to heat water on a compatible cooktop; pick electric if you want the kettle to heat the water.
- Match capacity to your pours. Check practical or minimum/maximum capacity where the manufacturer states it, and make sure the usable amount suits your typical brew.
- Decide whether you need temperature selection. Confirm it on the exact electric model rather than assuming all electric kettles provide it.
- Verify local compatibility. For stovetop kettles, check the listed heat sources; for electric kettles, check the voltage and frequency of the regional version.
- Choose for comfortable pouring. A narrow spout offers a control advantage, but handle comfort and a manageable filled weight are personal considerations.
What else belongs in a V60 setup?
Hario’s V60 equipment guidance also identifies filters, a server, a scale, and a grinder as parts of a brewing setup. These may be useful depending on what you already own, but they are separate choices from selecting a kettle.
