Choose a bag for the job
Check the package for food-storage labeling, intended use, capacity, and dimensions. A secure closure can help cover food, but the available evidence does not establish that one brand seals better or keeps food fresh for a measured number of days.

Why freezer bags help protect quality
USDA explains that the main reason to wrap food for freezing is to keep air out and protect it from freezer burn. Heavy freezer-weight plastic bags are a suitable option because thicker packaging helps limit air exposure. Freezer burn affects quality, not safety: the FDA says, “Freezer burn does not mean food is unsafe.” Freezing at 0°F (-18°C) stops most bacterial growth but does not kill most bacteria. Properly handled food kept frozen at that temperature can remain safe indefinitely, although its quality may decline over time. FDA: Are You Storing Food Safely?
If you’re shopping for this use, look for heavy-duty freezer bags in a size that fits the portion without excessive empty space. The description is a shopping search, not a tested brand recommendation.

Keep food at safe temperatures
A sealed bag can cover refrigerated food, but safe storage depends on temperature and prompt refrigeration. FDA recommends keeping the refrigerator at or below 40°F (4°C) and the freezer at or below 0°F (-18°C). Refrigerate perishables promptly; do not leave them at room temperature for more than two hours, or one hour when the temperature is above 90°F (32°C). FDA food-storage guidance
Use only bags labeled for food and the intended purpose
USDA notes that consumer plastic wraps and storage bags commonly use polyethylene, polyvinylidene chloride, or polyvinyl chloride. Do not use plastic trash bags to store or cook food: they are not food-grade, and chemicals may leach into food. Choose a product labeled for food storage and, when relevant, freezer use. Microwave only when the package allows it
Microwave directions are product-specific. A 2021 SC Johnson Professional document says its seal-top storage and freezer bags, except sandwich bags, meet FDA temperature requirements associated with microwave defrosting and reheating. Its precautions include setting the bag on a microwave-safe dish, venting it, handling it carefully, and avoiding overheating.
