For a professional who needs one drill for wood and metal work plus occasional small masonry holes, the Hilti SF 6H-22 is the best-supported choice in the current specifications reviewed here: it adds hammer action to the SF 6-22’s core drill/driver specifications, with a stated concrete and masonry drilling range of 4–12 mm. If you do not need hammer drilling, choose the SF 6-22. Neither model is established here as a replacement for a rotary hammer on demanding concrete work.
This is a specification-based recommendation, not a hands-on or independent comparison. The models and documentation below reflect Hilti USA and North American materials checked October 8, 2026; regional model names, generations, kits, and availability may differ.
Which Hilti cordless drill is best for heavy-duty construction?
Choose the SF 6H-22 when your work includes routine drilling and driving in wood or metal and occasional small-diameter masonry holes. Its hammer function is specified for 4–12 mm drilling in concrete or masonry. Choose the SF 6-22 when you want the corresponding non-hammer drill/driver and do not need that capability.
Both models are listed at 21.6 V, 2.0 kg without a battery, two speed ranges up to 2,000 rpm, and up to 65 Nm soft-joint torque. These are manufacturer specifications; they do not establish that either tool is a universal best choice across every construction trade or duty cycle. See Hilti’s SF 6-22 / SF 6H-22 operating instructions for the model-specific limits.

How do the current models compare?
| Model | Documented specifications | Fit indicated by those specifications | Boundary |
|---|---|---|---|
| SF 6H-22 | 21.6 V; 2.0 kg without battery; 0–490 and 0–2,000 rpm; up to 65 Nm soft-joint torque; 36,000 impacts per minute; 4–12 mm hammer drilling in concrete/masonry. | General drill/driver use where occasional small masonry holes call for hammer action. | The stated masonry range is 4–12 mm; it does not establish suitability for large or demanding concrete holes. |
| SF 6-22 | 21.6 V; 2.0 kg without battery; 0–490 and 0–2,000 rpm; up to 65 Nm soft-joint torque. | Wood and metal drilling and driving when hammer action is unnecessary. | The manual lists no concrete/masonry hammer-drilling capacity. |
| SF 8M-22 | 21.6 V; four speed ranges of 0–320, 0–625, 0–1,440, and 0–2,460 rpm; torque range 1.5–12 Nm. | Worth comparing if its four-speed arrangement fits the work. | Its torque range is not directly comparable to the SF 6-series soft-joint torque figure, so these data do not show it is stronger. |
| SF 10W-22 | Named as a cordless drill driver in Hilti’s 2026 Nuron recommendation chart; comparable torque, weight, and drilling-capacity figures are not stated in the cited chart extract. | Include it in a wider current-model comparison after checking its regional specification sheet. | Available evidence here is insufficient for an apples-to-apples ranking. |
Hilti’s Nuron Recommendation Chart 2026 includes the SF 6H-22, SF 8M-22, and SF 10W-22. The chart establishes that these models are part of the named lineup, not that one outranks another for every job.
What the SF 6-series limits mean on the job
Bits and materials
The SF 6-22 and SF 6H-22 manuals list a 1.5–13 mm keyless chuck range. Their stated maximum bit diameters are 20 mm in hardwood, 32 mm in softwood, and 13 mm in metal. For the SF 6H-22 only, the listed hammer-drilling range in concrete or masonry is 4–12 mm. These are accessory limits in Hilti’s operating instructions, not a guarantee of drilling speed in every material or setup.

Hammer drill or rotary hammer?
The SF 6H-22’s specified hammer function is for small-diameter masonry drilling within the stated range. The cited documentation does not establish either SF 6 model as a substitute for a rotary hammer when the work calls for larger holes or demanding concrete drilling. Match the tool to the hole diameter and material rather than treating “hammer drill” as a blanket concrete capability.
SF 8M-22 capacity
The SF 8M-22 Generation 02 manual lists maximum bit diameters of 32 mm in softwood, 20 mm in hardwood, and 20 mm in metal. Its 1.5–12 Nm torque range uses a different specification from the SF 6 manual’s “up to 65 Nm soft-joint torque,” so comparing those numbers as if they were the same measure would be misleading. Consult the SF 8M-22 operating instructions for its full model-specific data.

What to check before buying a drill or kit
- Confirm the exact model and regional generation. The figures above are from Hilti North American documentation; names, specifications, and availability can vary by market.
- Decide whether hammer action is needed. For the SF 6H-22, Hilti lists 4–12 mm concrete/masonry hammer drilling; the SF 6-22 has no listed hammer-drilling capacity.
- Check whether the offer is bare tool or a kit. Verify which Nuron battery and charger, if any, are included rather than assuming a bundle’s contents.
- Verify battery and charger compatibility for the exact drill. Hilti describes Nuron as a shared platform across light-, mid-, and heavy-duty tools, and its January 19, 2026 announcement named B22-290 and B22-195 batteries and a high-speed dual-bay charger. That platform statement is not a substitute for checking the drill’s documentation and the listing’s compatibility details.
- Check included accessories. The SF 6-series operating instructions list the drill/driver, side handle, and operating instructions among supplied items; retailer bundles can differ. Confirm the actual listing for its case and other contents.
Hilti’s January 19, 2026 Nuron lineup announcement describes the battery platform as serving tools from light- and mid-duty to heavy-duty. This is Hilti’s corporate description, not an independent finding about runtime or jobsite performance. Hilti also cautions that sound and vibration values depend on application, accessories, maintenance, and operating conditions; a declared value should not be treated as a universal exposure or productivity result.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to make the final choice
- Occasional small masonry holes plus wood and metal work: SF 6H-22, within its stated 4–12 mm hammer-drilling range.
- Wood and metal work without masonry hammer drilling: SF 6-22.
- Considering a different current model: compare the SF 8M-22 or SF 10W-22 only after reviewing the current regional specification sheet and kit details; the available figures do not support a complete ranking.
- Frequent, large, or demanding concrete holes: the cited drill/driver specifications do not establish either SF 6-series tool as the right substitute for a rotary hammer.
