The right range-hood degreaser depends on the hood’s material and finish—not on a universal “best” product. CLR, Bosch, Krud Kutter and Dawn Professional each list products for range hoods, but the available manufacturer information does not establish which removes grease better. Check your hood manual and the cleaner label before use, especially on coated, painted or aluminum surfaces.
How to choose a range-hood degreaser
Start with the hood’s owner’s manual: identify the exterior material and finish, learn how to remove the filters, and note any cleaning restrictions. Then confirm that the product label lists your surface and intended use. A product marketed for stainless steel is not automatically suitable for black steel, an anti-fingerprint coating, control markings or every filter material.
- Match the material and finish. Follow the appliance maker’s care instructions, not just the cleaner’s general claims.
- Check the application. A surface spray, a concentrate and a filter-cleaning instruction are not interchangeable; use the label’s directions for dilution, contact time and rinsing.
- Consider the setting. Some products are household options, while others are positioned for commercial kitchens.
- Do not infer a performance ranking. Manufacturer listings identify intended uses, but they do not show which product cleans fastest or leaves the least residue.
Manufacturer-listed degreaser options
The products below are options to evaluate against your own hood manual and the current product label. They are not a tested ranking, and formulations or availability may vary by region.

These source-backed listings do not establish a single best-performing degreaser. Choose only a product whose label and your hood maker’s instructions agree on the surface and method.

How to clean the hood exterior
For stainless steel, Bosch advises mild soapy water and a soft cloth. Find the grain, wipe in its direction, and dry with a soft cloth. Bosch warns against chlorine-based cleaners and abrasive cloths or cleaners. Its instructions are specific to the care guidance it provides; check your own appliance manual for other materials or finishes.
- Read both sets of directions. Check the hood manual and the cleaner label before applying anything, including a degreaser.
- Protect sensitive details. Do not apply a product to excluded coatings, markings or components. Bosch’s exclusions for product 00312207 do not define the compatibility of other cleaners.
- Apply only as directed. Follow the product’s instructions for application, exposure time and whether rinsing is required. For Bosch Degreaser 00312207, aluminum exposure must not exceed 15 minutes.
- Wipe and dry appropriately. For stainless steel under Bosch’s care guidance, wipe with the grain and dry using a soft cloth.
Clean removable grease filters separately
Filters collect grease and may need a different method from the hood exterior. Bosch says to consult the owner’s manual for filter removal. For its guidance, removable filters can be soaked in hot soapy water; use degreaser for remaining greasy residue, brush, rinse and dry thoroughly before reinstalling. Follow your own hood manual, since filter types and removal methods differ.

For applicable Bosch ventilation hoods, Bosch says charcoal or carbon filters should be replaced every 3 to 4 months depending on usage. That schedule is Bosch guidance, not a universal interval for other brands; consult the manual for your model.
