Victorinox now sells a Swiss Army-style pocket multitool with no conventional knife blade: the Companion Slim Alox. Its six functions focus on opening packages and containers, light screwdriver tasks and everyday utility. It is a clear example of one maker expanding beyond the blade-centered format—not proof that the wider multitool market is abandoning blades, and not a guarantee that the tool will be allowed through airport security.
Are there Swiss Army knives without a blade?
Yes. Victorinox’s US product listing identifies the Companion Slim Alox, model 0.8170.28, as a six-function pocket tool. The listed functions are scissors, a box opener, a 3 mm screwdriver, a bottle opener, a 7 mm screwdriver and a wire stripper. The listing does not include a conventional knife blade. Victorinox positions it for compact everyday opening work, including packages and battery compartments. The box opener is not a substitute for a knife when a task requires a longer cutting edge, and the small tool set is not a replacement for a larger multitool on demanding repair jobs.
Size and price
The official US listing gives dimensions of 0.5 inches high, 3.7 inches long and 0.8 inches wide, with a weight of 2.4 ounces. It displayed a price of $46 excluding tax when checked on October 8, 2026; price and availability can change, so check the listing before buying. Victorinox product listing

What does “knife-less” change in practice?
For someone who wants a pocket tool but does not need a knife blade, the Companion Slim Alox concentrates on opening, scissors and small adjustments. It may suit routine package opening or tasks such as accessing a battery compartment. It is less suited to work that depends on a conventional blade or more substantial repair tools.
- Cutting: the listed tool set has a box opener, but no conventional knife blade.
- Everyday utility: scissors, two screwdrivers, a bottle opener and a wire stripper round out the six functions.
- Carry profile: compare the exact model’s dimensions and weight with other tools; Companion variants do not necessarily share the same specifications.
- Where you plan to carry it: check the rules for each airport, airline, destination and venue. “Blade-free” is not a universal clearance standard.
Is this a wider shift at Victorinox?
There is a company-level signal: Victorinox’s Companion Collection announcement groups the Companion, Companion S Alox, Companion X Alox and Companion Slim Alox around opening and unpacking tasks. The company says, “Each tool in the Companion Collection is thoughtfully developed to simplify opening and unpacking tasks effectively.” That is Victorinox’s description of its own collection, not a statement from a named executive. The announcement and the Slim Alox show Victorinox offering options beyond the traditional blade-centered pocket tool. They do not establish that the entire multitool market is moving in the same direction. The available sources also provide no adoption, demand, sales or market-share statistics to quantify such a trend.

Do not assume so. The US Transportation Security Administration lists a Swiss Army Knife as prohibited in carry-on baggage and permitted in checked baggage. That entry concerns a Swiss Army Knife and does not explicitly determine how every officer or airport will treat the Companion Slim Alox. TSA says the final decision rests with the officer, and sharp objects in checked baggage should be sheathed or securely wrapped. TSA: Swiss Army Knife TSA: sharp objects guidance

Victorinox’s hand-luggage guidance says restrictions vary by airport and airline, and recommends checking current rules and putting a Swiss Army Knife in checked baggage whenever possible. Its page notes that Zurich Airport requires knives or scissors with blades over 6 cm to be checked; Victorinox labels that information as extracted in July 2026. That Zurich-specific rule should not be applied to other airports or treated as a ruling on the Companion Slim Alox. Victorinox hand-luggage guidance
For a particular trip, check the departure and connecting airports, airline, destination and relevant venue separately. A product listing without a knife blade is useful information, but it is not advance approval to carry the tool through screening.
