If your Thereye ice maker has stopped producing ice, start by checking the model number: the troubleshooting steps and cleaning-cycle timings below are specific to the ER-IM05 unless noted otherwise. Check water, the filter, the ice bin and sensors, then follow the indicator-specific restart instructions. Do not apply ER-IM05 button timings to an ER-IM03.
Identify your Thereye model first
Find the model number on the machine’s label or in its manual. The ER-IM05 manual provides the detailed troubleshooting and maintenance instructions in this guide. The separate ER-IM03 manual is useful only for the limited model comparison below; it is not a substitute for ER-IM05 directions.

ER-IM05: work through these checks if it will not make ice
- Check the water and restart. If the water indicator signals a shortage, add potable water without passing the MAX line, then press On/Off. Check that the water-level detector is not blocked.
- Inspect the filter and possible mineral buildup. Remove and inspect the water filter; clean it when needed. If scale may be obstructing internal pipes, follow the descaling procedure below.
- Check the bin and ice-full sensor. Remove ice if the bin is full. Wipe dirt from the sensor with a soft, damp cloth. If the sensor looks damaged, stop and contact Thereye support rather than attempting an unsupported repair.
- Follow the assembly indicator. For an assembly shown as defrosting, the manual directs you to wait 30 to 45 minutes for automatic recovery, or run self-cleaning and then press On/Off. For an assembly identified as frozen, wait 20 minutes for automatic defrosting, then unplug the machine and restart it.
- Check placement and airflow. Set the machine upright on a level surface with at least six inches of clearance at the sides and back. Make sure nothing blocks the rear fan.
The ER-IM05 manual says production begins in about 15 minutes; this is an approximate manual statement, not a guaranteed start time. It also says the machine stops when the bin is full and resumes automatically after four hours. Removing ice can allow it to restart immediately if there is enough water.

Respond to indicators and common symptoms
Water indicator or no ice
Use the water-level and detector checks above. If the tank is filled below MAX and the detector is clear but the machine still does not operate, continue with the filter, bin, and assembly checks rather than repeatedly adding water.
Ice-full indicator when the bin is not full
Remove ice and wipe the ice-full sensor with a soft, damp cloth. If the sensor appears damaged or the indicator remains on after these checks, contact support; cleaning is not a fix for a hardware fault.

Noise during ice making
Check that the machine is upright, level, and has the specified clearance, with the rear fan unobstructed. The manual’s troubleshooting includes “Noise during ice making,” but the available instructions do not establish a specific repair for every noise. If noise persists after placement and airflow checks, contact Thereye rather than dismantling the unit.
Water standing in or leaking from the machine
Check the drain connection and hose. The ER-IM05 manual directs owners to make sure the hose is fully seated, inspect its end for damage or an uneven cut, and use PTFE thread seal tape at the connection if needed.

Clean and descale the ER-IM05 safely
Routine cleaning
The ER-IM05 manual recommends cleaning the tank and ice bin every one to two weeks and unplugging the machine before regular cleaning. To run its self-cleaning cycle, hold Clean for three seconds; the manual says the cycle lasts eight minutes.
Descaling for suspected mineral buildup
- Mix distilled white vinegar or ice maker cleaner with warm water and add it to the tank without exceeding MAX.
- Wait at least two hours, then run up to three cleaning cycles.
- Drain the machine, refill with fresh water, and run three cycles to rinse.
Do not use solvents or other chemicals. The manual recommends distilled or demineralized water at 40–82°F and an ambient temperature of 50–90°F in its troubleshooting guidance. Descaling is a maintenance step for likely mineral or filter-related issues; it will not resolve a damaged sensor or every hardware problem.

Do not transfer ER-IM05 timings to the ER-IM03
The ER-IM03 manual describes a five-minute cleaning cycle, while the ER-IM05 manual describes an eight-minute self-cleaning cycle started by holding Clean for three seconds. Confirm the model before following a cleaning procedure. The ER-IM03 manual also claims a capacity of 30 lb (13.6 kg) of ice per day under stated conditions of 73°F ambient air and 59°F water. That is a manufacturer claim for the ER-IM03, not an independently verified benchmark or a figure established for the ER-IM05.
When to contact Thereye support
If the checks and model-appropriate cleaning do not resolve the issue, or a sensor appears damaged, contact Thereye at [email protected]. The ER-IM05 manual lists a 12-month product and labor warranty from original purchase, with exclusions. The manual does not establish whether the listed email or warranty process is current, and coverage depends on the unit and the owner’s circumstances. Include the model number and purchase details when asking about next steps.
