The featured Studio layout measures 380 sq ft (35.3 sq m), but it has an open living area rather than a dedicated bedroom—a key distinction for anyone considering it as a full-time home or guest retreat.
What is the Cosmic One?
The Cosmic One is a prefabricated micro house by Cosmic Buildings. New Atlas reported on the home on July 8, 2024, describing several layouts, including the 380 sq ft Studio and a larger, two-bedroom version measuring 750 sq ft (almost 70 sq m). The report does not establish whether those configurations are still offered.
Its design pairs a wood-and-steel exterior with a distinctive roofline, integrated solar panels, a small deck and sliding glass door access. Inside, the emphasis is on recognizable residential features rather than a bare-bones shelter: cooking and cleaning appliances, a bathroom, storage and connected controls.

What comforts are included?
Living space and kitchen
The pictured Studio has an open living area with a sofa and home office. Its kitchen is described with an oven, induction stove, sink, cabinetry, a Wi-Fi-connected refrigerator and a dishwasher. Multi-hinged doors can close off the kitchen area, giving the small plan a way to separate the cooking zone from the rest of the interior.
Bathroom and connected controls
The bathroom includes a toilet, shower and vanity sink. New Atlas also noted oak and limestone finishes, polished chrome handles, smartphone-controlled energy management and Wi-Fi-connected lighting. The report does not identify the appliance brands or provide details about the controls’ supported systems.

What is known about the solar and battery system?
New Atlas described the roof-based solar panel and battery setup as standard. Additional batteries and greywater filtration were reported as optional upgrades for buyers seeking off-grid operation. However, the article gives no solar-panel rating, battery capacity, energy-production estimate or measured period of off-grid operation.
Those missing specifications matter: the presence of panels and batteries alone does not show whether a home can reliably run its appliances without grid power. Before evaluating off-grid suitability, ask for the system’s rated output and usable storage, the loads it is designed to serve, and the details and capacity of any greywater treatment. Also clarify what happens during prolonged low-sun conditions and whether backup power is part of the current offering.
