Yes. Clean and dry the dish, keep it out of direct water, and let the bar drain and air-dry between uses. If water keeps pooling under the soap, a small raised or slotted insert may help without replacing the dish.
Why soap sticks to a dish
A damp bar can cling where its underside meets the dish. Water left beneath it and gummy soap residue make the problem more likely. The practical remedy is to keep the dish dry and prevent the bar from sitting in standing water. A 1941 U.S. government consumer guide gives the same basic advice: keep the soap dish dry and do not let soap stand in water.
Fix the sticking with the dish you already have
- Clean and dry the dish. Lift the bar, rinse or wipe away gummy residue, and dry the dish before putting the soap back.
- Let runoff escape. After washing, shake off excess suds if needed and set the bar down so water can drain instead of collecting beneath it.
- Move it out of the spray. Place the dish away from a faucet drip or shower stream.
- Reduce contact and allow airflow. If the dish has room, rest the bar on its edge or reposition it so less of its wet underside touches the surface. Let it air-dry between uses.
- Clean it regularly. If the bar still sticks and the dish is flat or holds water, try a small raised insert or soap saver before replacing the dish.
These are practical applications of moisture-management advice, not a guarantee that every bar or dish will behave the same way.
When a soap saver or insert may help
If the existing dish cannot drain or leaves water pooled under the bar, look for a raised or slotted design with limited contact against the soap and open space for air to reach underneath. The makers of Soap-saver describe a low-contact design with drainage holes. WeatherTech SoapSaver describes a raised ring for airflow and a sink model with a slot and runoff-collecting ridge. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent comparative tests, so there is no established basis for ranking one design as more effective than another. Claims that a holder extends soap life have not been independently verified here.

What to look for in a replacement insert
- Drainage: slots or holes let water leave rather than pool.
- Airflow: raised supports leave space beneath the bar to dry.
- Limited contact: smaller contact points leave less of the wet underside pressed against the holder.
- Easy cleaning: residue and trapped water should be easy to rinse away.
