Choose a table saw jig by the operation it supports: a pushblock helps control stock as you feed it, a tapering jig guides repeatable angled cuts, and a miter slider or sled guides crosscuts or shop-built fixtures. None is a substitute for the saw’s safety instructions, and no single accessory covers every task.

Which type of table saw jig fits the job?

Accessory Best suited to What to check
Pushblock Controlled feeding, including work with narrow stock How it grips and controls the workpiece, whether it supports the keeper and offcut sides, included legs or accessories, and the stock range stated by the manufacturer
Tapering jig Repeatable angled cuts, such as tapered legs Adjustment range, angle-setting and repeat-setting features, how the stock is held and fed, and compatibility with the saw and any pushblock
Miter slider or sled Guided crosscuts and shop-built fixtures Fit in the saw’s miter slot, smooth and unbound full travel, sled stability, and whether the design calls for one slider or two

These accessories have different functions. Start with the cut and the way the workpiece must be controlled, then check the specific tool’s instructions and fit with your saw.

Pushblocks: control the stock as you feed it

A pushblock is for feeding and controlling stock during a cut. Look at how it engages the workpiece, whether its configuration supports both the keeper and offcut sides, and what accessories are supplied. The manufacturer’s stated capacity or setup guidance applies to its specified configuration, not automatically to every pushblock or cut.

Example: Microjig GRR-RIPPER+ 3D Pushblock

Microjig describes the GRR-RIPPER+ as applying downward pressure to stabilize the workpiece, inward pressure against the fence, and forward pressure to feed stock. Its product page lists a main body, 1/2-inch and 1/4-inch legs, a center leg, handle, balance support, hardware, and SafeRip kit. Microjig states that the standard configuration can cut stock down to 1/4 inch by 1/4 inch; its SafeRip scale is intended for particular leg and fence configurations. Follow the product instructions for the setup you use. Microjig GRR-RIPPER+ product information.

  • Well made: T-tracks are made of solid extruded aluminum and the table saw runners are made of UHMW linear polyethylene, durability, and smooth, surface burrs-free.
  • Safe and Efficient: The crosscut sled for table saw aids in precise cutting, meeting various cutting needs, prevents measurement and cutting errors, and enhances safety and efficiency.
  • Low Friction: UHMW miter bars for table saw are ideal for use as crosscut sled guide rails, and have low friction and stability without expansion or contraction due to environmental changes.
  • Function: Table saw sled kit is perfect for crosscutting, repeat length cutting, and small cuts, stabilizing workpieces, included knobs and bolts can be used as simple stop blocks for consistent cuts without frequent adjustments to measure fence distance.

Microjig explains kickback as occurring when a workpiece strays from the fence and gets pinched between the blade and fence. That is the manufacturer’s explanation, not a complete safety procedure or a guarantee that the pushblock eliminates kickback or injury.

Tapering jigs: set an angle you can repeat

For repeated angled cuts, compare the jig’s adjustment range, how the angle is set, whether it has a way to retain settings, and how the workpiece is held and fed. Check that the jig is suitable for your saw and that your chosen pushblock can be used with it.

O'SKOOL Aluminum Miter Bars, 430mm, 2 Pack, Adjustable Fit for Less Play
  • Expansion collars help reduce sled play: Fine-tune each expansion collar from above with the included hex key to reduce side-to-side movement without removing the bars, helping crosscut and table saw sleds track more smoothly through the miter slot
  • Rounded Entry for Smoother Setup: The rounded leading end helps each runner enter the miter slot with less catching during setup, making repeated test fits easier when building crosscut sleds, taper sleds, and woodworking jigs
  • Two Mounting Methods with Top Access: Attach the bars from above with 1/4"-20 machine screws or from underneath with wood screws; top access holes let you reach the collar adjustments after the sled is assembled
  • Check Your Miter Slot Before Ordering: Made for standard 3/4" x 3/8" T-shaped and U-style slots and not for 5/8" slots; remove the retaining discs for a non-T-shaped straight slot as shown in the instructions
  • Two 430mm Bars for Sled and Jig Builds: Use the pair for crosscut sleds, table saw sled runners, taper or jointer sleds, and compatible router-table jigs; includes mounting hardware, hex key, templates, and instructions

Example: Microjig MICRODIAL Tapering Jig

Microjig describes the MICRODIAL as adjustable from 0 to 10 degrees, with two memory locks for repeat settings. The manufacturer says it can be used on table saws, router tables, and band saws, and is compatible with GRR-RIPPER pushblocks. Its product page showed the jig out of stock when accessed on October 8, 2026; inventory may change, so check current availability before buying. Microjig MICRODIAL product information.

Miter sliders and sleds: check fit and travel

A miter slider fits a saw’s miter slot and can serve as a component in a shop-built crosscut sled or another fixture. A slider is not, by itself, a complete sled. Fit and travel matter: a loose or binding slider can undermine the movement the jig relies on.

Fit the slider and check its full travel

  1. Follow the slider manufacturer’s instructions to adjust the slider for the saw’s miter slot.
  2. Move the slider through its full intended travel and check that it moves freely without binding.
  3. For a shop-built jig spanning the distance between both miter slots, the INCRA manual calls for two Miter Sliders for stability. Treat that as guidance for the documented INCRA system and jig design, not a universal dimension or compatibility guarantee.

The INCRA Miter Slider manual describes applications including crosscut boxes, shooter boards, and tenoning jigs. It notes that variation in slot width can cause binding, which is why checking the fit and full travel is important. INCRA Miter Slider Owner’s Manual & Jig Plans.

Safety instructions still apply

Use the instructions for both the accessory and the saw or other tool. The INCRA manual says to keep hands clear and use an appropriate safety device when suitable, such as a push stick or rubber-soled pushblock. Select and use the device according to the tool and accessory manuals; an accessory’s advertised control features are not a replacement for safe operating practice.
