Roll a magnetic sweeper over the floor to pick up loose iron and steel chips, screws, nails, and similar debris before vacuuming the remaining material. A magnet only attracts ferrous metals, so it will not collect every kind of metal filing.
How to use a rolling magnet before vacuuming
- Roll the sweeper across the area where loose metal debris has accumulated, including open floor space around workstations.
- Clear the collected debris from the magnet using its release mechanism, if equipped, and dispose of it safely.
- Vacuum remaining dust and debris as appropriate for your equipment. Magnetic pickup is a preliminary cleanup step, not a guarantee against shop-vac damage or maintenance.
Choose a magnetic pickup tool for the area

These tool descriptions support pickup of ferrous debris, not non-ferrous metals. A rolling sweeper suits open floor; choose a hand-held tool or wand where machines and tight spaces make rolling difficult. Check hose fit before choosing a dust-collection kit
The cited floor sweep kit is specified for a 4-inch dust-collection hose. That specification does not establish compatibility with every shop vacuum. Measure the vacuum port and hose, then confirm whether the kit or an adapter can connect securely; do not assume a 4-inch dust-collection fitting will match a shop-vac connection.
Know what the magnet will not pick up
Magnetic sweepers collect ferrous materials such as iron and steel. They should not be relied on to remove all metal filings: non-ferrous metals are outside the capability established by these product descriptions. Use an appropriate cleanup method for material the magnet does not attract.
