The CXG E90W is a 90 W, mains-powered soldering iron with temperature controls built into its handle. In a 2018 hands-on review, Jenny List found it capable for a simple through-hole kit and reported compatibility with Hakko 900M-series tips. That is useful evidence for basic work, not a controlled performance test or a safety certification. If you are considering one, check the exact unit’s voltage, plug and markings for your region.
What the CXG E90W is
List’s February 9, 2018 review describes a temperature-controlled iron with a seven-segment display, two adjustment buttons and a power switch on the handle. The reviewer measured their unit at about 220 mm long and 68 g, with a mains cable of roughly 1.5 m; these are observations of that unit, not confirmed universal specifications. Read the Hackaday review.
The handle-mounted controls make the iron self-contained rather than dependent on a separate control station. It is still a mains-powered tool, so its regional electrical fit matters as much as its heating features.
Temperature range and tip compatibility
Reported temperature settings
List reports a 350 °C default and an adjustable range of 80–500 °C. A retailer listing also gives an 80–500 °C range for its E90W listing. These are reported settings or specifications; neither source establishes that the displayed setting matches the actual tip temperature under load. See the retailer’s E90W listing.

Replacement tips
The review says the E90W accepts familiar Hakko 900M-series tips. The included general-purpose tip was judged suitable for through-hole joints and larger surface-mount work, but potentially too large for finer tasks. Confirm that a replacement is explicitly compatible and check its shape and dimensions against the work you intend to do.
How it performed in the review
For a practical test, List assembled a small through-hole function-generator kit. The reviewer said the E90W heated in a similar time to their Miniware TS100 and faster than their Antex iron, then found it supplied adequate heat for that kit without feeling cumbersome despite its length.

This is one reviewer’s informal comparison and experience. The article does not give controlled heating times, calibrated tip-temperature readings, repeatability data or results across different joint sizes and workloads. It supports a cautious conclusion that the tested unit handled a modest through-hole task; it does not establish thermal recovery or performance for demanding repair work.
Safety and regional fit
List inspected one unit’s internal construction and described an earth connection intended to contact the element shroud and earth the tip. The reviewer was satisfied with the insulation observed but would have preferred improved strain relief. That is an inspection and judgment of a single unit, not a certification finding or evidence about every production batch.

- 1️⃣[Upgrade & Heat up Quickly]: This soldering iron adopts a premium ceramic core with 80w High Power, which heats up to operating temperatures in 10 seconds, and its heat output to hold at a constant temperature. The 110-120Volt digital soldering iron can be accurately adjusted to 180℃-480℃/ 356°F-896°F and switch between ℃ / °F.
- 2️⃣ [Automatic Sleeping & Temperature Memory]: In power on state, If the smart soldering iron is placed on the stand for 5 minutes, it will auto decrease temperature to extend heating core lifetimes (LCD displays "OFF"). Holding the soldering iron handle will restore the heating. If you turn off the solder iron at 356°F, when you turn it on next time, it will auto heat up to 356°F.
- 3️⃣[Clear Digital Display & Anti-scalding Handle]: A high-definition LCD screen display, which indicates the temperature status more clearly, so you don't worry about finding the right temperature and you can really tell how hot it is and accurately control the heat. Heat-resistant handles can insulate temperature effectively to get a long cool handle.
- 4️⃣[Use-Friendly & Widely Use]: Compared with soldering iron station, this lightweight soldering kit for electronics is portable, easy to use or carry, just plug and play. You can widely use this solder kit for welding circuit boards, home DIY soldering, jewelry welding, appliance and electronics repairs etc.

The retailer listing describes a 220–240 V version, while the review discusses a unit with a European plug and mentions a different NEMA-style option. Those sources do not establish current plug or voltage configurations. Before buying, verify the exact listing and inspect the unit’s voltage, plug, and safety markings for your location. No authoritative certification record for the exact E90W is established by these sources.
Accessories and workbench setup
The review says the package included a small folded-metal rest; the reviewer preferred a full-size stand. Contents can vary by seller or package, so confirm what is included and use a stable stand appropriate for a hot iron. The reported 900M-series tip compatibility may make alternate tip shapes easier to source, but fit should be checked before purchase.

Is the CXG E90W any good?
For basic through-hole soldering, the available hands-on account is favorable: List found the tested iron usable and adequately hot for the function-generator kit. The E90W’s reported 90 W rating, on-handle adjustment and reported 900M-series compatibility are practical points in its favor for someone seeking a straightforward mains-powered iron.
The evidence does not establish how it compares under controlled conditions, how accurately it regulates tip temperature, or whether current units have the same construction and package contents as the reviewed one. The 2018 review called it an extremely low-priced tool, but that is a historical characterization, not a current price claim. Verify present availability, seller details, regional variant and warranty before deciding.
