The other picks suit specific priorities, including compact size, a stainless-steel pot, speed, or pressure induction.
These recommendations draw on testing published by Bon Appétit and The Kitchn, not a single shared lab test. Bon Appétit says it tested 41 rice cookers and cooked more than 120 cups of rice in 2026; The Kitchn tested different rice types and batch sizes for its guide, updated in 2025. Results are useful comparisons, not a universal ranking: rice type, batch size, and preferred texture can change which cooker is right for you.
How to choose among the eight picks
- Match capacity to your usual batch. Product listings may state uncooked or cooked cups, which are not interchangeable. Check the exact model and SKU before comparing capacities.
- Choose for the rice you eat. A reviewer’s ideal texture may not match yours, and results can vary by grain type and batch size.
- Weigh convenience against control. Timers, keep-warm functions, and multiple cooking modes add flexibility; simple cookers can have fewer features, while advanced models may cost more or take longer.
- Consider cleaning and pot design. Coated pots can be easier to clean, while the Tatung’s stainless-steel setup takes more effort.
Testing methods differ. The Kitchn describes trials with long-grain white, sushi, and short-grain brown rice in multiple batch sizes, with cleaning after use. Which? says it evaluates white and wholegrain rice, cleaning, ease of use, and keep-warm performance; it also says it buys the products it tests and checks results with research experts. Which? states, “Brands can’t buy their way into our tests – we don’t accept freebies.” Read Which?’s testing information. These approaches provide context, but they do not create one standardized scorecard across publications.
The 8 best rice cookers of 2026
1. Hamilton Beach Digital Programmable Rice Cooker — best value for most home cooks
Bon Appétit found that this model made consistently good rice and performed favorably in a blind tasting against the Zojirushi NP-HCC10. The Kitchn also found it a good performer for the price. It is a practical value choice if you do not need the extensive controls of a premium cooker.

#1 Best Overall
- Easy-to-use programmable digital controls complete with an automatic Keep Warm mode after each cycle
- An array of preset functions for every kind of meal: White Rice, Brown Rice, Steam, Flash Rice
- Steam meat, vegetables and more with the provided Steam Tray all while rice cooks below
- Perfectly prepares 2 to 8 cups of any variety of cooked rice or grains
- Sensor Logic Technology for delicious, fluffy rice and grains every time - automatically controls the internal temperature throughout the cooking cycle for optimal texture and flavor
Tradeoffs include possible bottom scorching or browning, and brown rice that may come out too firm. The Kitchn also noted less legible pot markings and a smaller capacity. Capacity is especially important to verify: Bon Appétit lists 7 cups uncooked, while The Kitchn’s listing describes a 4-cup version. Confirm the exact model or SKU and whether the figure means uncooked rice before buying. Bon Appétit’s rice cooker testing; The Kitchn’s rice cooker guide.
2. Zojirushi NP-HCC10 — best premium induction cooker for rice quality
Bon Appétit reports that the NP-HCC10 won its blind tastings. Its Micom temperature adjustment, induction heating, nine settings, 5.5-cup uncooked capacity, timer, and extended keep-warm function give it more control than a basic cooker.
That control comes with a higher price and long cooking times. Bon Appétit also notes that the cord does not retract and that some people may find its brown rice too soft. Choose it if rice quality and adjustable cooking matter more to you than speed or a lower price. Bon Appétit’s rice cooker testing.

3. GreenPan Advanced — best compact ceramic-coated option
Bon Appétit lists a 4-cup uncooked capacity, a PFAS-free ceramic nonstick-coated pot, a delay timer, and keep-warm. Testers found its white and basmati rice serviceable and its brown rice notably well separated. Some found white rice uneven and brown rice too firm, so it is a better fit if compact size and grain separation are priorities than if you expect one consistently soft texture. The coating description reflects Bon Appétit’s product language. Bon Appétit’s rice cooker testing.

The Tatung uses inner and outer pots to steam rice; Bon Appétit describes it as a 6-cup uncooked cooker. Its test produced fluffy rice that testers praised. The tradeoffs are harder cleaning, a hot and rattling lid, and limited features for the price. Consider it if the stainless-steel pot arrangement appeals to you and you are willing to spend more effort on cleanup. Bon Appétit’s rice cooker testing.
5. Cuckoo CR-0655F — best lower-cost pick for taste-test performance
In Bon Appétit’s taste test, rice from the CR-0655F ranked close to the winning Zojirushi, and the Cuckoo finished 15 minutes sooner in that comparison. Bon Appétit lists a 6-cup capacity. It is a compelling alternative if you want strong taste-test results without choosing the premium pick.

6. Tiger JBV-A10U — best simple Micom cooker
Bon Appétit describes this 5.5-cup uncooked model as a strong blind-test performer that is easy to clean. It has no alarm, timer, or digital interface, making it a fit for cooks who prefer straightforward operation over extra controls. The Kitchn also praises a Tiger model’s simple operation and rice quality but notes its quickly opening lid; verify that the comparison refers to the same Tiger variant before applying that lid observation to the JBV-A10U. 7. Instant Zest Rice and Grain Cooker — best for speed and larger batches
The Kitchn lists a 10-cup uncooked capacity and multiple grain settings. In its comparison, the Zest cooked white, sushi, and brown rice 20–30 minutes faster than its Zojirushi overall pick. That timing is specific to The Kitchn’s comparison, not a guarantee for every recipe or batch.

The Kitchn also found bottom browning, difficult-to-read markings, and no removable inner lid. Its larger listed capacity and speed may suit bigger batches, but check whether its rice texture and cleanup tradeoffs work for your kitchen. The Kitchn’s rice cooker guide.
8. Zojirushi NW-JEC10 — best high-end pressure-induction option
Bon Appétit describes the NW-JEC10 as the most expensive home cooker in Zojirushi’s lineup and notes its My Rice preference-learning feature and strong initial taste-test results. The longer-term evidence has a separate attribution: Bon Appétit refers to a year of testing by an Epicurious reviewer. That year-long experience should not be read as Bon Appétit’s own extended test. This is the option to consider if you want a high-end pressure-induction cooker and are comfortable with the premium positioning. Bon Appétit’s rice cooker testing.

If you cook jasmine rice for two
Start by checking whether a model’s listed capacity is uncooked rice and whether it can make your usual small batch well. The available comparisons do not establish a universal winner for “Cuckoo vs. Zojirushi vs. Yum Asia” for two people eating jasmine rice. Bon Appétit found the Cuckoo CR-0655F close to the NP-HCC10 in its taste test, while its results for the NP-HCC10 and other models depend on the rice and tasting preferences. Yum Asia is not among the eight models assessed here, so this evidence cannot settle that three-way choice.
Best Value
- Micro computerized fuzzy logic technology. Capacity Up to 5.5 cups / 1.0 liter,Dimensions (W x D x H) 10-1/8 x 14 x 8-1/2 inches. The electrical rating is 120 volts / 610 watts
- Automatic keep warm, extended keep warm and reheating cycle
- Easy to clean clear coated stainless steel exterior, 2 delay time settings
- Interchangeable melody and beep signal
- Built in retractable power cord
If you mainly cook brown rice
Texture results vary: Bon Appétit testers found the GreenPan’s brown rice well separated, while some found it too firm; some found the NP-HCC10’s brown rice too soft. The Hamilton Beach may also produce brown rice that is too firm for some tastes. If texture is decisive, use those findings as cues about preference rather than a guarantee, and look for testing on the rice type and batch size you actually make.
If you want speed, capacity, or fewer controls
The Instant Zest is the clearest speed-and-capacity pick in The Kitchn’s comparison. The Tiger JBV-A10U is the simpler choice, while the Hamilton Beach balances value with programmable controls. Verify the exact capacity and model variant before treating any of those descriptions as a direct apples-to-apples comparison.
What the testing does—and does not—establish
The recommendations combine findings from separate publications and different methods. Bon Appétit reports testing 41 rice cookers and cooking more than 120 cups in 2026; The Kitchn’s guide, updated in 2025 for its 2026 guide, describes trials across rice types and batch sizes. Their results support comparisons among the models they tested, not a market-wide 2026 ranking or a shared numerical score.
Current prices and stock for all eight models are not established here, and model availability can vary by region. Confirm the exact model, market, capacity, and current listing before purchase. Do not transfer specifications from a different country’s model: for example, Tiger’s Japan-market JRI series includes programs such as white rice, quick cook, brown rice, mixed grains, and porridge, but those specifications do not establish features on the US-market JBV-A10U. Tiger’s Japanese JRI product information.
Regional availability matters for other cookers too. TechRadar’s October 2026 review of the Midea 5L Induction Rice Cooker discusses use in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and some Southeast Asian countries; that regional model is not included as a general-market recommendation here.
