If your washer stops spinning or leaves clothes wet, first check the load, cycle setting, door or lid, suds, and visible drainage—not the machine’s internal parts. An uneven or overloaded load can interrupt a spin, while a low- or no-spin setting may be working as selected. If basic checks do not help, consult the manual for your exact model or contact a qualified appliance technician.
Start with the load and spin setting
Redistribute or reduce the laundry
Pause the cycle if your washer allows it, then spread a lopsided load around the drum. A single bulky item can throw off the balance; an overfilled drum can also make it harder for laundry to spin properly. Remove some items if clothes are packed tightly. Whirlpool says an imbalance can cause vibration, noise, longer cycle times, reduced spin speed, or wet clothes, and a significant imbalance may stop spinning while the machine tries to correct itself (Whirlpool guidance on unbalanced washers).
Confirm the selected cycle
Check whether the cycle or an option is set to low spin or no spin. Those settings remove less water by design. Choose a spin level appropriate for the garment care label and the washer’s cycle guide; delicate items may need gentler treatment than durable fabrics.
Check the door or lid, suds, and drainage
Make sure the closure is latched
Confirm the door or lid is fully shut and latched. A washer needs to register a closed door or lid before it can spin. Do not bypass or defeat the interlock.

Look for excess suds and visible hose problems
Use the detergent type and amount specified for your washer. Excessive suds can interfere with draining and spinning. If water remains in the tub, inspect only the externally visible drain hose for an obvious kink or installation issue. Do not pull the washer out or alter plumbing unless you can do so safely and the model’s instructions permit it.
Whirlpool Product Help states: “An unbalanced load or overloaded washer can also prevent proper draining and spinning.” Its guidance also identifies closure, suds, and load balance as checks when a washer will not drain or spin (Whirlpool washer draining and spinning guide).

Use the manual before opening a filter
Some front-load washers have a pump filter that users can access and clean; others may not, and the location and procedure vary. Before opening any filter access, follow the exact model manual for safe draining and cleaning, and prepare for water to spill. Do not assume a filter is user-serviceable just because another model has one.
Check leveling and note what the washer does
An unlevel washer can vibrate and may not spin properly. Check whether the appliance appears stable and level, using the adjustment procedure in its installation guide. Drain-hose dimensions and installation requirements differ by model, so do not apply one manufacturer’s measurements to every washer.

Before contacting support, note whether water remains in the tub, whether the washer repeatedly redistributes the load, whether it shakes or makes unusual noises, whether the door stays locked, and any flashing error code. These symptoms can help narrow troubleshooting, but they do not prove that a particular component has failed. Whirlpool describes imbalance-related symptoms and self-correction in its top-load guidance (Whirlpool guidance on unbalanced washers).

If the load, cycle, closure, suds, visible hose, and leveling checks do not resolve the problem, use the troubleshooting section for your exact model or contact the manufacturer or a qualified appliance technician. A damaged drum or motor, electrical fault, or worn drive belt can require professional diagnosis; symptoms alone cannot identify which part is at fault. Bosch recommends professional assistance when basic troubleshooting does not resolve a washer that will not spin (Bosch washer support).

If the drum is full of water, use only a drain or drain-and-spin function described in your manual. Never reach into a moving drum or force open a locked door or lid. Washer designs and safe access steps vary, so the model manual is the authority for filter access and service procedures.
