The 2026 Philips Sonicare Next-Generation DiamondClean 9900 Prestige makes brushing coverage visible on the handle, rather than relying mainly on an app. T3 reviewer Lizzie Wilmot found that feedback useful, but the brush is expensive and its charging glass did not suit her routine. This review focuses on the new generation; older reviews describe a different, app-led 9900.
Which Philips Sonicare 9900 Prestige is this review about?
The name spans more than one generation. Philips announced the Next-Generation DiamondClean 9900 Prestige on July 7, 2026, adding on-handle guidance. Earlier coverage, including The Independent’s July 2025 review, concerns the older app-led 9900. Features and impressions from that earlier model should not be assumed to apply to the 2026 brush.
The hands-on review considered here is T3’s October 3, 2026 review of the new model. Philips’ announcement describes the product’s capabilities; it is not independent evidence that those features produce better oral-health outcomes.
What is new about the 2026 9900 Prestige?
Coverage guidance on the handle
Philips says its third-generation AI and machine-learning model powers a 12-segment Mouth Map displayed on the handle, alongside a light ring that gives real-time feedback on coverage, pressure and scrubbing. The practical distinction is that users can see areas brushed or missed without reaching for a phone. T3 reviewer Lizzie Wilmot found that feedback useful in practice.

Pressure, modes and intensity
The brush has SenseIQ pressure sensing, which Philips says automatically adapts intensity when the user presses too hard. Philips also lists eight brushing modes and three intensity settings. The available material does not establish how those options compare in a controlled test with another premium brush.
Drive system and included accessories
Philips specifies Sonicare Fluid Action, a next-generation drivetrain, a rechargeable travel case and a charging glass. The charging glass may be less useful if it does not fit your bathroom or charging routine: Wilmot said, “It isn’t cheap, and whilst the glass charger is a clever idea, it didn’t really suit my routine.” That is one reviewer’s experience, not a general assessment or dental recommendation.

Does the 9900 Prestige clean better?
Philips’ July 7, 2026 announcement claims 20x more plaque removal versus manual brushing and 15x healthier gums versus manual brushing in six weeks. These are manufacturer claims with those specific comparisons and timeframe; T3’s hands-on review does not independently verify them. Treat them as Philips’ stated results, not as proof that this brush will deliver the same outcome for every user.
The clearest practical benefit supported by the hands-on review is the on-handle coverage feedback. The available sources do not provide a controlled head-to-head performance comparison against another toothbrush, so they do not establish that the 9900 is objectively the best cleaner.

Is it worth the price?
T3 reported a UK list price of £599.99 and a Boots listing at £289.99 in its October 3, 2026 review. Those are dated UK figures, not a current quote or a guide to prices elsewhere. Check the live local listing, exact model number and included accessories before buying.
The brush makes most sense for someone who values real-time on-handle coaching and expects to use it. If you will not pay attention to the map and light-ring feedback, those signature additions may not justify the premium. Consider whether the charging glass and travel case suit your setup, as well as the cost and availability of replacement heads.

Travel case, brush-head compatibility and availability
Philips says Sonicare brush heads work with the new model, but check compatibility against the toothbrush’s exact HX model number before buying replacement heads. The supplied information does not establish the recurring cost of compatible heads.
Philips said the new DiamondClean range would reach selected retailers in Europe and the United States starting in fall 2026, then expand to other countries later in 2026 and into 2027. Its US announcement said Amazon availability would begin in September 2026. These are rollout plans, not confirmation of current stock in a particular location.

Check the live retailer listing for the colors actually available in your market.
How to compare it with an older 9900 or another premium brush
Do not assume that a different generation with a similar name offers the same guidance or accessories. Compare the features that change the experience and the ongoing cost:
- Guidance: Does the brush show coverage on the handle, or is feedback primarily app-based?
- Cleaning choices: How many modes and intensity settings are available, and how are they selected?
- Feedback: What does the brush indicate about pressure and coverage?
- Travel and charging: Which case and charger are included, and do they fit your routine?
- Replacement heads: Confirm compatibility for the exact HX model and compare recurring costs.
- Local purchase terms: Check the current price, retailer stock and warranty for the model sold in your country.
The sources establish the new model’s listed features and one reviewer’s impressions, but not a controlled comparison that would support an objective winner across premium toothbrushes.
