He described it as “sausage dog-sized”—a vivid comparison, not a measured dimension. PerthNow reported that the drain ran freely after the blockage was cleared.
What was blocking the shower drain?
The blockage was a mass of accumulated hair. In a report published on 21 August 2023, PerthNow described Bruce clearing the slow drain at a hotel on Hay Street in Perth. The account does not name the hotel.
Bruce called the clump “sausage dog-sized” and joked, “There’s probably a thousand people who have contributed to this.” Neither the size of the hairball nor the number of people whose hair contributed to it was measured or independently established in the report.
What happened after the hair was removed?
PerthNow reported that the drain ran freely once Bruce had cleared it. The article included video and screenshots credited to Drain Cleaning Australia; it does not provide further details about the plumbing inspection or repair.

The report said the video had received more than 17,000 YouTube views at the time of publication. That is a historical figure from August 2023, not a current view count.
What the report does—and does not—establish
- Established in the account: a slow shower drain at a Perth hotel on Hay Street was cleared of a large accumulation of hair, after which it ran freely.
- Not established: the hotel’s name, a measured size for the hair, how long it accumulated, or how many people contributed to it.
Hair buildup can be a practical concern for shower drains, but this incident report does not evaluate prevention products or show that any particular accessory would have stopped this blockage.
