KWK Promes turned that visual reference into a distinctive exterior while adapting the building’s materials and form to fire-safety, cost, neighborhood, and zoning constraints.
Why does Gambit Office look like stacked pipes?
Gambit Systems, a specialist pipe distributor, wanted a low-cost office and warehouse that would make its business immediately legible. The architects’ solution was to shape the building like a stack of pipes, using the silhouette as both a showcase for the company and a way to bring its office, workshop, and warehouse together as one composition. The building is titled Gambit Office / Robert Konieczny + KWK Promes; ArchDaily lists its location as Bojkowska 120, Gliwice, and its completion year as 2024.
The project comprises three linked parts: a two-storey office with sloping walls, a lower workshop where orders are prepared, and a taller, cuboid warehouse described by the architects as unheated. Rather than treating the office as a representative front attached to a conventional warehouse, the design makes the different functions read as a unified whole.
Is the facade actually made from pipes?
No. The pipe-like appearance is a visual metaphor, not a literal pipe structure. The team initially considered using the pipes Gambit distributes, but those products were designed for underground use. The architects say they oxidized under ultraviolet exposure and failed fire-safety requirements, so they were not suitable for the facade.

Instead, the exterior uses raw aluminum sheet shaped to evoke pipes. The architects describe it as an inexpensive, easy-to-maintain choice that develops a matte, concrete-like patina over time. Those are the design team’s stated material expectations; the published project information does not provide independent long-term performance testing.
How does the building respond to its site?
A rectangular production hall previously occupied the site. Nearby houses have steep roofs, while long, cubic outbuildings form part of the area’s varied residential context. The pipe-like arrangement sets the pitch of the office roof, connecting the project’s central visual idea to the local roofscape.

The design also had to comply with the local zoning plan’s height limit. The office volume was trimmed at the second floor to stay within that limit. From the street, the fragmented form is intended to establish a frontage while fitting the dispersed residential setting; the wider site remains industrial in use and is primarily surrounded by car and truck parking.
How are the office and support spaces lit and used?
Windows and skylights bring daylight into the building. Ground-floor office spaces intended for regular occupancy have conventional windows overlooking a small garden set into the parking area. Skylights serve upper storage and auxiliary rooms. A relaxation terrace for employees sits on the roof of the building’s lowest section.

What practical details shape the unusual exterior?
The architects say the open facade forms were retained without planned bird nets, a decision made with the investor that also helped reduce investment cost. The openings were left available to animals, but the project information supplies no wildlife counts or other evidence of a measured biodiversity benefit. At the building’s edges, the ends of the forms were capped to prevent wind from whistling through them.
