The park is intended for the whole community—not solely hospice visitors—but its design is still being refined, so concept imagery should not be read as a final plan.
Where the park is planned and who is behind it
PCHF calls the project Swanbourne Parkland and has also referred to it as Swanbourne Community Park. It is a vacant parcel of Crown land beside the future hospice, within the broader Allen Park area. PCHF describes the State of Western Australia as the landowner and says the management order is held by the Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS). A portion of the land was excised from a Class A reserve to enable public parkland. PCHF’s project page says the Foundation will maintain the parkland for 40 years.
The proposal is a partnership between the WA Government and PCHF. The Foundation says its aim is to restore the vacant site as a natural space connected to surrounding bushland and coast, with native planting, increased canopy, habitat and places for respite and community use. PCHF has also said Noongar advisors will provide cultural guidance. These are project intentions, not confirmation that particular features have been built or approved in a final design. PCHF’s February 2025 announcement describes the project and its community aims.
Will the park be open to everyone?
Yes. PCHF says the parkland will be accessible to all community members, will not be fenced to restrict public use and will not be reserved exclusively for hospice guests. Accessible paths are planned to connect the parkland with the hospice entry. The park and hospice are distinct spaces: the park is intended as community-access land, while the hospice will provide care and support services to children and families. The design is still being refined
PCHF says it sought community input in November and published a Swanbourne Parkland Community Consultation Summary Report dated January 2026. The Foundation says consultation findings and recommendations are informing the design, with natural landscape elements identified as a community priority. The project page describes design work as ongoing; no final design should be inferred from concept material.
What Sandcastles will provide
Sandcastles (Boodja Mia) is the planned seven-bed children’s hospice next to the park. PCHF describes a home-like facility with family rooms, respite and specialist care for children with life-limiting diagnoses, end-of-life care, family support and statewide bereavement services. The Foundation estimates that about 2,000 children in Western Australia have life-limiting conditions, but its project page does not state the estimate’s data year or underlying statistical source. Who is responsible for construction and care?
PCHF says it is funding construction and fit-out and will provide ongoing non-clinical support. CAHS is responsible for clinical operations and funding. In a January 2026 update, PCHF reported that the WA Government had committed more than $20 million in operational funding to CAHS. The update, published 20 January 2026, is the Foundation’s account of that commitment.

Dates published by PCHF are forecasts, not confirmation that either project has opened. In its 20 January 2026 update, the Foundation said it expected the hospice to open after construction was completed later that year. Its parkland page said community availability was expected in late 2026 and listed later construction and operation milestones. Check PCHF’s current project pages for updated timing before relying on those expectations.
