Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The Narwal Freo X Ultra is a credible choice for homes with mostly hard floors, especially if mopping and automatic mop-pad care matter more to you than fast cleaning or a traditional self-emptying dust dock. Independent reviewers report strong pickup and mopping results, but also slow runs, weak obstacle avoidance in some tests, and a problem with very dark carpet. Those trade-offs make it a specialist contender—not a proven “best robot vacuum” overall.
What the Narwal Freo X Ultra does—and how its dock handles dust
The Freo X Ultra combines vacuuming and mopping. Its base station washes and dries the mop pads, while the robot uses LiDAR navigation and Narwal’s DirtSense feature. The dust system works differently from a conventional auto-empty dock: debris is processed and compressed inside the robot rather than automatically transferred into a large bag in the base. That means the station automates mop care, but it does not provide the familiar large-capacity dock bag workflow. RTINGS describes the dust-bin design, and Narwal lists the product’s features.
The robot measures 350 × 350 × 107 mm and weighs about 4.25 kg; the base measures 415 × 370 × 434 mm and weighs about 8.5 kg, according to Narwal’s manual. At 10.7 cm tall, the robot may not fit beneath lower furniture, so measure clearance before buying. The manual lists a 5000 mAh / 72 Wh battery rating, while Narwal Australia’s product page lists 5200 mAh; the published capacities differ by source or market, and should not be treated as a single reconciled figure. How well does it vacuum and mop?
Modern Castle’s review, updated March 19, 2024, reports 95.5% overall debris removal and 100% removal on hardwood in its two-cycle debris test. It also reports 90% pet-hair removal and a 92% mop-cleaning result. These are results from that publisher’s tests and methods, not a promise of the same outcome in every home. Modern Castle’s review

EdgeSwing Technology enables it to clean up to the edge and reach every corner of your house.
- Maintenance-Free Docking Station - The included base station is a fully equipped hands-free maintenance center. It automatically washes, dries, and refills the mops with detergent and water. Then it cleans and dries itself and offers easy control of Freo X Ultra’s robot vacuum and mop functions.
Vacuum Wars also praises surface-debris pickup, hair performance, battery efficiency, and mopping in its own testing. Its assessment and Modern Castle’s figures should be read as separate evaluations, not combined into a single score: test methods and conditions differ. Vacuum Wars’ review
The balance of evidence points toward hard floors as the Freo X Ultra’s strongest fit. Mop pads lift 12 mm when carpet is detected, according to Modern Castle, but homes with substantial carpet should still weigh carpet pickup and clearance against the robot’s mopping strengths.

Where are the main drawbacks?
Obstacle avoidance is not dependable enough for cluttered floors
Modern Castle found that the robot could partly handle a cord but might drag a thin cable. Vacuum Wars also reports weak obstacle-avoidance scores in its tests. Pick up charging leads, small toys, and other loose objects before a run; the available testing does not support treating the robot as reliably hands-off around floor clutter. Modern Castle; Vacuum Wars
Cleaning can take a while
Modern Castle reports that the Freo X Ultra took 90 minutes to clean approximately 1,000 square feet in its test, compared with a 63-minute average among the robots in that publisher’s tested set. Vacuum Wars likewise describes slow navigation or cleaning in its own evaluation. These are reviewer-specific observations, not a universal time estimate for every floor plan.

Very dark rugs may trigger the cliff sensors
RTINGS says the cliff sensors triggered on its black sample carpet, causing the robot to stop. Covering the sensors was a testing workaround, not a recommended everyday fix. If you have very dark rugs, consider this a material compatibility risk rather than assuming the robot will clean over them normally. RTINGS
Is the Freo X Ultra worth buying?
It is most compelling if your home has mostly hard floors and you value mopping plus a station that washes and dries mop pads. It is a weaker fit if you expect rapid whole-home cleaning, robust avoidance of cords and small objects, or the standard dock-based dust auto-emptying found on some competing designs. This recommendation follows from the feature set and the cited reviewers’ tests; it is not a guarantee of results in a particular home.
