“Turn off” can mean disconnecting electrical power, stopping cooling while the refrigerator remains powered, or using Vacation mode while keeping the freezer running. These are different actions. For cleaning or moving, unplug the refrigerator or switch off its circuit breaker. To stop cooling in an empty appliance, use Cooling Off/Demo mode only if your model supports it. If you want to keep frozen food during a trip, check whether your model has Vacation mode.
Choose the kind of shutdown you need

Button sequences and feature availability vary by model and region. Find the model number on the appliance and follow its manual; do not assume a button combination from another Samsung refrigerator will work.
How to disconnect electrical power
For cleaning or moving, Samsung’s general guidance is to unplug the refrigerator or switch off power at its circuit breaker. If the refrigerator is hardwired or the plug is inaccessible, use the breaker. Follow the model’s manual for preparation and reconnection.
Samsung’s reset instructions say to wait about five minutes for electrical charge to clear as part of that reset procedure. This is not a universal waiting period for every cleaning, moving, installation, or service task. How Cooling Off, Demo or Shop mode works
Cooling Off mode is not an electrical shutdown. The refrigerator remains powered, but cooling is disabled; Samsung says the mode is intended for retail display. It may also be used for an empty refrigerator when you want to avoid unplugging it. The freezer and ice maker can stop cooling too, so remove food before activating the mode. Samsung warns: “Any food stored in the refrigerator will spoil if Cooling Off mode is left on for an extended period of time.” Samsung US Cooling Off guidance
Recognize the mode without resetting the refrigerator
Some models display “O FF” or “OF OF” when Cooling Off is active; displays vary. Samsung identifies these indications as Cooling Off mode, so a reset is not needed simply to make them disappear. Samsung also warns that a reset can erase error-code history. If an error is shown, photograph it before any reset if possible.

Use only the button sequence for your model
There is no universal Samsung button combination. Samsung’s general US support page directs users to the instructions for their specific model. As examples—not instructions for other models—certain RF23/RF29 family models use a six-second simultaneous button hold followed by confirmation, while Samsung’s RFG297 page specifies a different combination. How Vacation mode differs from turning the refrigerator off
Vacation mode keeps the appliance powered and is not a complete shutdown. Samsung Philippines’ instructions, last updated January 16, 2024, describe the fridge compartment as controlled below 17°C (62.6°F) while the freezer remains active at its previous setting. Samsung Gulf’s instructions, last updated June 15, 2026, describe the fridge being maintained at 17°C (62.6°F), with the freezer active at its prior setting. These are regional, model-dependent descriptions, not a guarantee that every Samsung refrigerator has the feature or uses the same temperature. Remove food from the fridge compartment before activating Vacation mode, and check your own manual for its settings and steps. If the refrigerator is being reset or troubleshooting a fault
A reset is different from leaving the refrigerator off. Samsung’s general reset procedure includes unplugging the appliance or switching off its breaker and waiting about five minutes; its cooling-troubleshooting power cycle instead says to cut power, wait two minutes, restore it, and then check cooling. These waits belong to separate Samsung procedures. Use the instructions for the problem and model at hand, and record any displayed error code before resetting because error-code history may be lost.
