On a Samsung 3-Door French refrigerator, the bottom freezer is a pull-out drawer: remove the upper and lower baskets, release the rail hooks, then slide the drawer off the rails. Samsung 4-Door Flex models with hinged freezer doors use a different procedure involving electrical connectors and a hinge shaft. Check your model before starting; do not use the drawer steps on a hinged-door model.
Identify your Samsung freezer design first
Samsung’s removal instructions vary by model. Find the refrigerator’s model code and confirm whether the freezer is a sliding drawer or a hinged door. If the parts or illustrations do not match your appliance, use its specific manual rather than forcing a component. See Samsung’s shelf and drawer removal and cleaning guide.
- 3-Door French: a pull-out freezer drawer with baskets and rail hooks. Follow the drawer procedure below.
- 4-Door Flex: some models have separate hinged freezer doors, with connectors and a hinge shaft. Use the distinct procedure below.
Remove a 3-Door French freezer drawer
Samsung’s 3-Door French instructions do not specify tools for this drawer-removal sequence.
- Pull the freezer drawer fully open.
- Lift the front of the upper basket and pull it out.
- Pull up the lower basket to remove it from the rail assembly.
- Press down on the hooks to unlock the rail assembly.
- Hold the upper area of the drawer and slide it out of the rail assembly.
Samsung cautions: “Do not scratch or dent the rail assembly.” Avoid forcing the hooks or dragging the rails against hard surfaces.

Reinstall the drawer
Reverse the removal steps and return each basket to its correct position. Samsung warns that incorrectly placed baskets can keep the drawer from opening or closing properly and may cause frost buildup.
Remove a hinged freezer door on a 4-Door Flex
This is a separate, more involved procedure—not an alternative way to remove the French-door drawer. Samsung’s 4-Door Flex guidance requires turning off the refrigerator before disconnecting connectors. Support the door throughout the removal so it cannot fall, and avoid damaging the connectors.

- Turn off the refrigerator before disconnecting any electrical connectors.
- With the freezer door open, remove the leveling-leg cover screw.
- Disconnect the connectors.
- Hold the door, then press the hinge shaft down using a flat-head screwdriver or wrench.
- Tilt the door slightly forward and lift it away.
For reinstallation, seat the hinge shaft in the middle-hinge shaft hole and reconnect the bottom connectors. Samsung cautions against removing both doors simultaneously. If your exact model’s hardware or instructions differ, stop and consult its manual.
The tools Samsung lists for this 4-Door Flex work are a Phillips screwdriver, flat-head screwdriver, socket spanner, 4 mm and 5 mm Allen wrenches, and pliers. This tool list applies to that model-family procedure; it does not mean the 3-Door French drawer steps require those tools.

If the drawer will not close after reinstallation
First check that nothing is blocking the drawer’s path and that both baskets are in their correct positions. Samsung’s separate door-closing troubleshooting guide addresses French-door drawers that are off the rails or have a displaced index roller bar. Those are alignment issues, not routine removal steps. Do not force an unfamiliar hook, connector, or hinge.
