The timer beeps when time is up; it does not start or stop cooking. These are general U.S. instructions, and labels or behavior can differ by model, so check your oven’s manual if your panel does not match.
Set the timer by your control-panel layout
Samsung describes different steps for ovens with a number pad, ovens with arrow buttons but no number pad, and ovens with a dial knob. Follow the sequence that matches your panel.
Ovens with a number pad
- Press Timer.
- Enter the desired duration. Samsung’s general instructions give a range of 1 minute to 9 hours 59 minutes.
- Press START/SET to begin the countdown.
While the timer runs, the countdown replaces the clock display. If you enter the wrong duration, press Timer or OFF/CLEAR and enter it again.
Ovens with arrow buttons and no number pad
- Press Timer.
- Use the Up and Down arrows to set the duration.
- Press START/SET.
To change the duration, press Timer, enter a different time with the arrows, and press START/SET.

Ovens with a dial knob
- Tap Menu (the horizontal-lines icon).
- Turn the dial to select Timer.
- Enter the duration with the dial, then push the dial to start the timer.
Cancel the timer or clear its end message
Number-pad and arrow-button models
On these layouts, hold Timer for three seconds to cancel a running countdown. On number-pad models, Samsung says canceling returns the display to the clock view. When the timer expires, the oven beeps and displays End; press Timer to clear the message.
Dial-knob models
To cancel before the timer expires, push or turn the dial and select Cancel. When the timer expires, the panel beeps and displays Time’s up; a count-up timer then begins. Push the dial to remove it.

Know what the timer does—and what it does not do
Samsung US Support states: “The kitchen timer does not start or stop cooking functions.” It is an alert for elapsed time, not a control for the oven’s heating cycle.

- Cook Time sets how long food cooks, after which the oven shuts off.
- Delay Start schedules the oven to start and stop automatically at a set time.
The display can also help distinguish these functions. Samsung’s display guide says the kitchen-timer icon indicates that the display is showing the timer’s remaining time. The Cooking Time indicator means it is showing time remaining until the oven shuts off.
Why the timer may not be available
Samsung says the timer may not be set or changed while a time-based function, such as Time Bake, is running or while Sabbath Mode is enabled. If the controls are difficult to operate, consult Samsung’s control-panel troubleshooting guidance. Avoid trying a reset or repair based on instructions for a different panel; use the instructions for your oven’s model.

Check your model’s manual when controls differ
The steps above are Samsung’s general U.S. instructions, not a guarantee that every oven has the same labels, time range, or end-of-timer behavior. If your controls do not match, find the model number and consult its manual or Samsung’s model-specific support information before proceeding.
