To use a Samsung ovenβs temperature probe, insert its tip into the food, connect the plug to the probe socket inside the oven, then select a supported cooking function and set the target internal temperature. The feature is available only on Samsung models supplied with a probe, and the exact controls vary by modelβcheck your ovenβs manual before you start.
Before you begin
- Confirm that your oven came with a temperature probe and find the probe instructions in the manual for your exact model.
- Fully defrost the food before inserting the probe; frozen food can damage its tip.
- Use an oven-safe pan or dish for the food.
Position the probe in the food
Insert the probe tip into the foodβs center, fully into the meat, while keeping it clear of bone, fat, and gristle.
Bone-in meat
Place the probe in the center of the lowest and thickest portion of the meat.
Whole poultry
Insert it into the thickest part of the inner thigh, parallel to the leg. Make sure the tip does not protrude through the meat.

Connect the probe and set the oven
- Place the food in its oven-safe pan or dish.
- Fully insert the probe plug into the socket on the ovenβs upper side wall.
- Select a supported function. Samsungβs general guidance lists Bake, Convection Bake, and Convection Roast.
- Set the oven temperature and the desired internal temperature. Samsungβs general guidance gives a probe target range of 100Β°F to 200Β°F.
- If needed, set Cook Time or Delay Start, then start the oven. The control-panel sequence differs by model, so follow the model-specific manual.
The oven beeps when the food reaches the target internal temperature. Samsung notes that covered meat may rise by 5 to 10 degrees during a 10-minute rest. Handle the probe carefully after cooking; it may be hot.
Protect the probe
- Do not use tongs to insert or remove it.
- Do not store the probe inside the oven.
- Remove it before using Broil or Self Clean; either function can permanently damage the probe.
Probe versus instant-read thermometer
A Samsung oven probe is a leave-in tool connected to the oven. USDA FSIS distinguishes it from an instant-read thermometer, which is used near the end of cooking and is not designed to remain in food in the oven. An oven-cord thermometer lets you check food without opening the oven door; an instant-read thermometer provides a separate doneness check. Neither thermometer type should be assumed to fit or work with a Samsung probe socket.

For a separate check, USDA recommends using a food thermometer rather than judging doneness by appearance alone. For thin foods checked with an instant-read thermometer, insert the probe from the side if needed to reach the center.
