To turn a Samsung gas burner up or down for cooking, light it and turn its control knob between LO and HI. If the flame is yellow, uneven, unusually large, or otherwise looks wrong, turn the burner off and let it cool before checking that its parts are clean and seated correctly. Do not try a generic valve adjustment: the procedure depends on the model, and Samsung warns that removing a valve set screw can cause a gas leak.
How do I turn the flame up or down?
For ordinary cooking, use the burner’s control knob. After lighting the burner, turn the knob toward HI for more heat or toward LO for less. Use the burner indicator on the control panel to confirm which burner that knob operates. Samsung’s gas range and cooktop usage guide describes this knob-based adjustment and advises consulting the manual for the exact appliance model.
What should I check if the flame looks unusual?
A flame that looks yellow or has an unusual size or shape does not automatically mean the valve needs tuning. Samsung lists these as flame concerns and says that keeping burners clean and properly assembled, along with correct gas pressure, can resolve many such issues. Turn the burner off and wait for it to cool before inspecting it.
Clean and reseat the burner components
- When the cooktop is cool, check the burner head and cap for debris or signs that they are not seated correctly.
- Clean and reassemble the components according to the instructions for your model. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance emphasizes clean, correctly assembled burners.
- Relight the burner and see whether the flame behaves normally.
Samsung’s response for one range, model NX60A6711SS/AA, suggests replacing the burner head and cap if cleaning and reassembly do not resolve a difference, followed by service if needed. That example does not establish which parts fit other models; verify compatibility for your appliance before replacing anything. Samsung’s general flame-issue troubleshooting page covers symptoms and common checks.

Should I adjust a valve or bypass screw?
Do not use a valve-adjustment procedure found for another stove as a universal Samsung instruction. Low-flame adjustment is model-specific. A Samsung-hosted installation manual for a particular Dacor Transitional Cooktop 36 describes adjustment at a valve bypass screw and warns that removing the valve set screw can cause a gas leak. That manual is not a general procedure for all Samsung ranges or cooktops, so this article does not provide a screw-turning recipe.
If the flame remains abnormal after the burner is clean and correctly assembled, find the documentation for the exact model or contact Samsung support rather than making an internal adjustment yourself.
