Klumpen is a compact utility module designed to sit beside a separate cabin, bundling solar power, battery storage, water treatment, heating, satellite broadband and basic kitchen and bathroom facilities into a 7 m² footprint. Its published specifications describe an integrated service package—not proof that a site can operate without permits, utility connections or additional construction.
What is Klumpen?
Klumpen is a factory-made, teepee-like structure intended to handle the utility functions that can make a small off-grid dwelling complex to build. The Verge reported on March 17, 2026, that the prototype was designed to stand next to a cabin; it is not presented as a sleeping cabin itself. The company’s pitch is to consolidate power, water services, heating, connectivity, cooking and hygiene facilities in one module.
The manufacturer describes it as “the 5% of a house that takes 95% of the time to build.” That is promotional positioning, not a measured estimate of construction time saved. The Verge’s March 17, 2026 report covered the prototype and intended use, while the Klumpen official product page publishes the product’s specifications and sales estimates.
What does the published specification include?
The official specifications describe a 2,000 × 2,000 mm footprint, 4,850 mm height and 7 m² of floor area. The listed systems and amenities are:

- Heating and hot water: an air-to-water split heat pump and a hot-water tank listed at 60 °C.
- Kitchen and bathroom: sink, two stoves, microwave, shower and lavatory. The product page also lists loads such as a boiler, toaster, dishwasher and washer.
- Connectivity: satellite broadband and an integrated cell-phone antenna. The page does not identify a broadband provider.
These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent operating results. The pages reviewed do not state measured daily solar generation, runtime for particular loads, water capacity or throughput, broadband speed, or running costs. A 7.5 kWh battery rating alone does not establish how long a particular household can run appliances: that depends on generation, consumption and operating conditions.
How much does Klumpen cost, and can you order one?
The manufacturer’s product page lists a $35,000 target retail price and estimates shipping within the EU at $3,000. It also lists a $198,000 price for an aluminum extreme-conditions edition. The Verge reported a €2,000 reservation deposit and an estimated September 2026 shipment for the first batch.

The official page still presents September 2026 as an estimate and invites visitors to enter an email address to hear when sign-ups start. The sources available do not confirm that units have shipped or that paid reservations are currently open. Treat the price, freight estimate and timing as company-published information, and confirm current availability, terms, supported delivery locations and any deposit conditions directly with the manufacturer before making plans.
Does an integrated utility core eliminate site work or permits?
No published specification establishes that it does. The manufacturer markets Klumpen as a way to avoid dealing with plumbers, utilities or permits, but the reviewed sources do not show that this claim applies across jurisdictions. A packaged system does not by itself establish that a parcel is suitable, that sanitation arrangements comply with local rules, or that electrical and land-use approvals are unnecessary.

Before buying or siting the module, check requirements with the relevant local authorities and qualified trades. In particular, verify land use and building rules, electrical and renewable-energy requirements, water supply, septic or other wastewater approvals, access for delivery, foundation or anchoring needs, and any inspections. Klumpen’s appeal is integration: several services are packaged in a small structure. Whether that is more practical than assembling separate systems depends on details that the published specifications do not settle.

- Electrical compatibility: confirm that the listed voltage and output configuration suit the intended location, appliances and applicable electrical rules.
- Delivery and total cost: verify current production status, shipping to your address, taxes, installation costs and the precise reservation or purchase terms.
Until those details are available for a specific site, Klumpen is best understood as a promising all-in-one design proposition with published component specifications—not a demonstrated guarantee of year-round autonomous living or a universal shortcut around construction requirements.
