She says she compressed the sawdust, covered it with sand so it would burn from the inside outward, and got about four hours of burn time from her own build. It is a project account, not a complete set of construction plans.
What Laura Kampf’s project describes
In her July 1, 2016 Make article, maker Laura Kampf explains that she had bags of sawdust left from previous planer work and wanted to put the material to use. She describes making a stove with an old barrel and a couple of pieces of scrap metal, noting that a round container could be used.
For fuel preparation, Kampf says to compress the sawdust and cover it with sand. She explains that this lets it burn evenly from the inside outward. She also says that cooking with the stove was enjoyable.
How long did the stove burn?
Kampf reported that her stove burned for about four hours. That is an approximate observation from her individual project, not a standardized test result or a performance guarantee for another build. The Make article does not state a test protocol or the operating conditions behind the figure.
