If your La-Z-Boy electric recliner will not move, first check its outlet, plug, power-supply indicator, accessible connections and cord. Use the instructions for your exact chair: La-Z-Boy power recliners do not all share the same parts or troubleshooting steps. Stop using the chair if an electrical part is damaged, and contact a La-Z-Boy dealer if basic checks do not resolve the problem.
Start with the manual for your exact recliner
La-Z-Boy publishes different instructions for different power-recliner families and shipment periods, so do not assume a procedure for a lift chair or a particular PowerRecline generation applies to your chair. Find the product prefix on the chair’s product information and search the official La-Z-Boy manual page. Include leading zeros in the prefix where applicable.
Check these things in order
- Check the outlet and plug. Confirm that the chair’s 120-volt cord is fully plugged into an outlet. Check that the outlet works and that a fuse or circuit breaker has not cut power. If you are unsure about the outlet, the Bronze Luxury-Lift instructions recommend contacting a qualified electrician or service technician. Bronze Luxury-Lift instructions; PowerRecline instructions.
- Look at the power-supply indicator. The cited models have a green LED on the power supply or transformer. Note whether it is lit. An unlit light is useful information for a service request, but it does not identify which component has failed. Bronze Luxury-Lift instructions; PowerRecline instructions.
- Check accessible connections. With the chair unplugged, check that connectors are seated as shown in its assembly instructions. Do not force a connector, and do not disconnect power components while they are powered. Bronze Luxury-Lift instructions; PowerRecline instructions.
- Inspect the cord and chair’s path. Look for pinched or crimped cords and visible obstructions where the model’s instructions call for an obstruction check. Do not operate the chair if its cord, plug, connector or power supply is damaged. Remove only a visible obstruction; do not reach into moving mechanisms. - Check occupancy and capacity limits. Follow the limit in the manual for your specific chair. Some cited power and lift models specify single-occupant use and a 300-pound capacity, but that figure should not be assumed for every model. Bronze Luxury-Lift instructions; PowerRecline instructions.
Match the symptom to a safe next step

Is there a reset sequence?
The manuals cited here do not establish one reset sequence for all La-Z-Boy electric recliners. Use the diagnostic checks and model-specific instructions rather than trying an assumed universal reset. Official manual page; Bronze Luxury-Lift instructions; PowerRecline instructions.
When to stop troubleshooting and arrange service
La-Z-Boy’s Bronze Luxury-Lift instructions state: “Do not attempt to disassemble or service the pump or motor; no serviceable parts are inside. Contact your La-Z-Boy® dealer for service.” The manuals also warn against operating a chair with a damaged power supply, electrical cord, plug or connector. Stop using it if any of these parts appears damaged; do not try to diagnose a motor, transformer, control or wiring failure from symptoms alone. Replacement power supplies and parts
The Bronze Luxury-Lift manual describes replacing its power supply: unplug it, disconnect it from the chair’s motor connector, connect the replacement as directed, and continue with the relevant assembly instructions. PowerRecline instructions also describe a supply-replacement path. These instructions do not show that one supply fits every chair.
