Selecta describes its round, fully green flower head and rates its commercial performance highly. If you want to grow it, first confirm that true-to-type plants or plugs are available in your area.
What is Kiwi Mellow dianthus?
Selecta identifies Kiwi Mellow as part of its Kiwi Dianthus collection and lists it as Dianthus barbatus. The Royal Horticultural Society records it as Dianthus barbatus [Kiwi Mellow] (‘Mor18C53’), with ‘Mor18C53’ as a synonym and the name status listed as Trade. Selecta’s product listing and the RHS cultivar record support that identification.
What do the flowers look like?
The breeder describes Kiwi Mellow as fully green, with a rounded flower head and distinctive shape and texture. Selecta’s Kiwi site also carries a grower’s description: “Kiwi mellow is a 100% green flower, it has a spectacular shape, texture and color. It brings diversity with it’s fully round head. It has great head/stem relation.” The site does not identify the grower, so the description is best treated as an attributed grower comment rather than an independent assessment. Selecta Kiwi
Can you grow Kiwi Mellow in a home garden?
Possibly, if you can source the named cultivar, but the documented market context is primarily commercial cut flowers and wholesale stems. The available listings do not establish routine consumer availability of Kiwi Mellow seeds, plugs, or garden-ready plants. Do not assume that a packet labeled simply “Dianthus” will produce this cultivar; confirm the plant’s identity with the seller before buying.

If you find it as a plug
Farmer Bailey’s general Dianthus guidance concerns vegetatively propagated plugs: plant plugs soon after arrival and avoid burying them deeply. This is general handling advice for Dianthus plugs, not a cultivar-specific Kiwi Mellow care plan. The guide also describes D. barbatus as annual or biennial according to breeders, while noting that Dianthus more broadly can be short-lived perennial in mild climates. The plant source and local climate matter. Farmer Bailey’s Dianthus and Carnation Growing Guide

How does it perform as a cut flower?
Selecta rates Kiwi Mellow as very high in productivity, fast in velocity, high in Fusarium tolerance, and very good in vase life. These are breeder ratings, not results from an independently documented trial: no sample size, test method, or trial year is supplied with the ratings. Treat them as commercial product claims rather than guaranteed performance in a home garden. Selecta’s product listing
Wholesale listings show Kiwi Mellow as cut stems in several lengths. That establishes a commercial stem offering, not that those stems—or living plants—are available to consumers in every region. BTF Group’s wholesale listing
