Its listing gives assembled dimensions of 48 inches wide by 76 inches deep by 40 inches high. WOOD lists a downloadable plan; a matching Woodcraft listing offers a paper plan and says materials are not included.
What the plan builds
WOOD describes a twin bed intended for young adults who may move. The design has mid-20th-century modern styling, with unusual shapes and vivid colors. The listing says it “knocks down flat to easily fit into the back of a minivan.” That is the publisher’s description of the design, not an independently verified transport test.

The published assembled dimensions are 48 inches wide × 76 inches deep × 40 inches high, according to the WOOD plan listing. Treat these as listing specifications rather than measurements of a completed build. The project appeared in WOOD Issue 183 in May 2008; the online listing reports an update on January 16, 2024.
Plan formats and what is included
| Listing | Format | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| WOOD magazine | Downloadable plan | The publisher’s listing identifies the project and its published dimensions. |
| Woodcraft, model MD-00582 | Paper plan | The listing states “MATERIALS NOT INCLUDED; PAPER PLAN ONLY” and repeats nominal dimensions with slightly different rounding. |
These are different listings for the same named design, not a materials kit. Check each live listing for current availability, delivery terms, and exact contents before ordering.

Choosing knock-down hardware
Do not assume that hardware sold for knock-down beds will fit this plan. Compatibility depends on the plan’s joint geometry, fastener placement, stock thickness, and the clearance required by the connector. The available product descriptions do not establish a tested match for the WOOD bed.
Dedicated bed brackets
Lee Valley’s knock-down bed brackets use bolts rather than hooks or tapered connectors. The listing notes that the bolt mechanism needs clearance and that screws are not included. Those are details to check against the actual plan before selecting the brackets; the listing does not confirm compatibility with this bed.
Connector bolts and nuts in another plan
Kreg’s platform-bed plan specifies 16 connector bolts and 16 connector nuts. Those quantities and installation instructions belong to Kreg’s separate design, not the WOOD magazine Knock-down Bed. They are not a hardware schedule for this project.

Bed-bolt joinery context
In guidance about a knock-down table, Fine Woodworking describes a stub mortise-and-tenon joint to align an apron and leg and resist twisting, secured with a bed bolt and reinforced by a corner block. It says the apron should be at least 1-1/4 inches thick to accommodate the nut. This is general joinery context from a table article, not a specification or safety claim for the WOOD bed. See Fine Woodworking’s April 8, 2010 article.
How it compares with another twin-bed plan
Woodcraft’s separate Captain’s Bed plan is another twin-bed project, not an alternate version of the mid-century Knock-down Bed. Its listing describes a bill of materials and cutting list, an exploded diagram, and a hardware requirements list; it also says project-specific assembly instructions are not included. Choose between the plans by design and the documentation each listing says it supplies, rather than treating their parts or instructions as interchangeable.
